Engineer-Microwave Backhaul/Transmission

About the Job


The Transmission Engineer is responsible for the proper design of microwave networks using established engineering principles. Engineer is conversant, skilled and experienced with long haul transmission standards and practices. This position is expected to anticipate path propagation anomalies, conduct a thorough analysis and employ techniques to properly resolve them. This position will provide guidance and assistance to all levels of Transmission Engineers in network design, path analysis and documentation preparation and delivery.  This Engineer will be customer-facing and interact with customers in meetings and phone calls during projects.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Personally, or through delegation to other Transmission Engineers, Level 1, 2 and 3, is responsible for all phases of proper network design and delivery.
  • Perform QC review of site lists as imported into PathLoss and DeLorme or MapInfo for analysis
  • Produce preliminary, interim and final network designs based on Customer specifications and CIC’s internal practices based upon industry standards.
  • Consolidate capacity planning of individual paths within the network design.
  • Provide objective comments regarding field surveyors in performance of site and path surveying quality, quantity and schedule compliance.
  • Analyze path survey results from field team and determine viability of path.
  • Review equipment type and configuration proposed by others to assure it meets required objectives. Coach and counsel others toward proficiency in the subject.
  • Analyze path to optimize performance and minimize effects caused by various atmospheric anomalies.
  • Understand and anticipate all propagation anomalies. Coach and counsel others toward proficiency in the subject.
  • Perform QC review of others’ or personally prepare all deliverable documents as required by customer including but not limited to Word, Excel and Visio representations of each path and system.
  • Develop new ideas and procedures that will streamline deliverables.
  • May be asked to participate in business development meetings with prospective customers and Company management.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS



  • Fluency in written and spoken English at college entry level is a must.
  • Able to create, format, spell-check and deliver clear and concise technical documents in common word processing and spreadsheet software.

    • Master understanding of all components in a typical radio rack, identify terrain features that cause various anomalies such as ducting.

    • Full knowledge of DGPS infrastructure and how it functions, import waypoints, locate precise coordinates, Datums, create routes and finding locations.

QUALIFICATIONS:


 


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or electronics technology, OR Associate’s degree plus military training, OR equivalent military training.
  • PLUS a minimum of 15 years verifiable experience performing microwave path surveys or other hands on microwave engineering duties of which 10 must be path and network designs.

 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • May be required to  bend, sit,  squat,  stand, crawl, walk, climb step ladder, push/pull,  kneel,  handle objects with manual  dexterity,  reach above shoulder level,  use fine finger movements repeatedly and for extended periods during a normal workday.

 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Predominately will work in home office environment with computers and multiple monitors for extended periods; may be placed in a customer’s office environment.
  • May be required to ride as a passenger in aircraft, cars, buses, boats and other public and private modes of transportation.

 


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:


This position requires the ability to travel a minimum of 25% of the time (actual travel may vary by job/customer).

Salaries
