PB is looking for an environmental/community noise specialist to assist with our growing practice in this field. A working knowledge of how environmental noise, as a pollutant, is generated and propagates, is modeled, monitored and reported is necessary. An understanding of architectural and/or building acoustics is a plus. The position requires an understanding of federal, state and local government noise regulations, particularly as they are applicable to the field of transportation with a focus on highway and transit and/or power generation or water treatment/conveyance.
The candidate will be expected to be able to quantify noise emissions through computation and computer modeling and understand of National and unique state regulations and guidelines pertaining to noise analysis. These skills will be used to provide noise analyses on projects such as:
o Illinois High Speed Rail
o I-5/SR-55 Soundwalls located in California
o Whittier Bridge and BU Bridge located in Massachusetts
o TTC Spadina Subway located in Toronto, Canada
o Westside Metro located in California
o Goethals Bridge located in New York
Requirements:
1) The successful candidate will have worked on projects similar to those listed above or possess similar skill sets obtained from education or training.
2) A minimum of one year of experience in acoustics, environmental engineering, or environmental noise assessment or equivalent specific coursework is required
3) Experience with the Traffic Noise Model®, rail/transit noise models, sound propagation equations, and Cadna-A or SoundPlan 3-d noise models is a plus.
4) Familiarity with the development and preparation of technical project studies/reports is a plus.
Additional:
1) A Bachelor's degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Meteorology, Physics, or related field is required.
2) Ability/willingness to work in the field to collect noise/vibration data during daytime and/or nighttime periods.
3) The candidate must be able to work under supervision both independently and within a team. Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft™ Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are necessary.
4) The ability to communicate with clients and staff, plus excellent writing skills are required. The successful candidate will be requested to furnish samples of their prior work.
5) Ability to work in this country immediately is required.
6) Possession of a valid driver's license issued by one of the 50 US states is
required.
7) Ability to qualify for a corporate/personal credit card is required.
