Enterprise Data Center Manager

This is a full time position with Perot Systems working within the government services division on site at NASA Ames Research Center @ Moffett Field, CA. This position is for a Enterprise Data Center Manager working with the Perot Systems Data Center Hardware Planning Team that delivers infrastructure support to Data Center customers. The team is responsible for space planning, PM scheduling, and interfacing with vendors and Corp facilities.

The selected candidate will be responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of two critical IT data centers hosting mission essential infra-structure in accordance to well established procedures and practices as per industry standards.

The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and work closely with technical teams and accounts in order to meet the customer needs. The candidate must be able to adapt very quickly and be able to effectively work on multiple items.


Responsibilities & Essential Functions:


• Responsible for day-to-day operations and management of the infrastructure of the data center environment to provide 24x7 critical infrastructure coverage to insure continual data center operations

• Implement and manage “Best Practices” for installation, repair and maintenance of critical facility electrical and mechanical systems for our customers data centers

• Monitors the performance of computing equipment, coordinates equipment installation and delivery schedules. Provide timely, accurate, and consistent technical infrastructure service and presentation to our customer within NASA Ames Research Center IT organization as well as to their customers. Identify requirements for infrastructure and operation expansion based on current and projected activity.

• Monitor and report on Data Center facilities system utilization, capacities and performance to corporate executive management

• Build and maintain high availability and redundancy between the two data centers

• Implement and manage a cost-effective charge back mechanism for data center services.

• Manage data center security and ensure all security incidents are quickly investigated, remedied and reported.

• Plan and direct optimum utilization of computer equipment to meet the customer's objectives.

• Direct the preparation and execution of computer operations production procedures. Implement defined Service Level Agreements and Operations Level Agreements.

• Review existing procedures and implement needed additional best practice processes


• Maintain open communications with customer’s IT management to keep them informed of operational situations that impact or may impact their respective areas

• Coordinate, schedule and plan the installation of equipment while managing power distribution to the system level to assure balanced distribution

• Understand psychometrics of air flow and distribution to assure a stable environment

• Understand the impact and be able to operate electrical switch gear
• Support service delivery organizations to ensure contracted service level agreements and key performance indicators are met or exceeded

• Manage outside vendors on maintenance of site equipment
• Manage and maintain warranty and related services

• Work closely with other departments to deliver superior service and performance to our customers.

• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders inside and outside Information Systems

Requirements:

•    Data Center Management and Facilities experience is required
•    High level working knowledge to perform mission critical facilities operations and maintenance: including chilled water plant, compressors, CRAC Air Handlers units, UPS systems, Electric switch gear, PDU’s, diesel generators and associated HVAC equipments
•     The candidate should have a foundation understanding of ITIL best practices in the following areas: Service Support, Service Delivery and Business Services Management
•    Familiarity with server and network platforms is required
•     Oversees facility operation including general maintenance of HVAC and electrical systems (utility, generators, UPS, Critical Power Distribution, large battery plants, etc.), mechanical and electrical equipment at it applies to the data centers. High level working knowledge of operations and procedures including a working knowledge of ticketing systems and prioritizing workload and resources
•    Ensure physical and virtual security of the data centers is tightly controlled and monitored
•    Ability to operate, troubleshoot and maintain complex electrical systems
•    Knowledge of server hardware maintenance/troubleshooting across multiple server vendors
•    Experience with capacity planning, preferably at a server and data center level
 Knowledge of current security technology including access control, CCTV, identification and special applications.
•    Familiar with inPerform generator tests review and analyze test results
•    Support service delivery organizations to ensure contracted service level agreements and key performance indicators are met or exceeded.
•    Ensure that all company practices and procedures are followed at all times, ensuring SAS 70 Type II compliance
•    Investigative tactics including interviewing and documentation.
•    Need excellent verbal and written communication and executive level presentation skills.
•     Experience in a fast paced environment preferred; ability to prioritize multiple and changing initiatives
•    Experience in having worked in managing Data Center for Federal Government environment would be highly preferred.

Desire Skills:

Experience using Remedy, Excel, Cad is a plus.
