Cabela’s, Inc. is seeking a full-time Enterprise Monitoring Manager to work in our IT Department at our Corporate office located in Sidney, Nebraska. This position is a critical part of the IT Enterprise Operations group, providing enterprise grade monitoring solutions to maximize uptime and provide a high level of service to the business. This position is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and supervision of all monitoring solutions.

Cabela´s Enterprise Monitoring Manager Roles and Tasks:

• Establish monitoring best practices and procedures to ensure operational consistency.
• Mentor and train subordinates.
• Design/Implement/Maintain monitoring plug-ins.
• Provide web-based front-end to interact with monitoring data.
• Insure maintenance of service levels and provide corporate-wide system transparency .
• Design/Implement monitoring architecture based on needs of business units.
• Provide operational stability and insure future expandability.
• Interact with Hardware/Software Vendors.
• Create new initiatives related to enterprise system monitoring. Recommend and implement direction and platform.

Enterprise Monitoring Manager Desired Skills:

• Experience with Groundwork OpenSource, Nagios and Cacti Monitoring
• Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux
• Must understand TCP/IP networking
• Must understand SNMP/SNMPTRAP, Remote SYSLOG and NRPE
• Must have 3+ years previous experience monitoring large networks
• Understanding of relational databases, specifically MySQL
• Ability to program in a number of languages (PHP, BASH, Java, Perl, etc)
• Able to independently solve problems and provide direction for team
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers and management
• Must be willing to be on call and work extended hours when necessary
• Knowledge of the following applications: Apache, Tomcat, Jboss, Sendmail, Oracle DB.
• Knowledge of the following technologies: SAN, NFS, Clustering, LDAP.

Long term challenge includes implementing solutions in a maintainable way, which will allow for maximized efficiency across the whole system. Short term challenges include gathering requirements from different groups and identifying all systems which need monitoring and their corresponding administrators. A detailed understanding of the various systems and environments and how they interact and affect each other. This majority of this knowledge is obtained through experience working with Cabela´s specific systems.
