What you will do

Establish and maintain the environmental, health and safety of the plant
workforce by monitoring and evaluating conditions to assureing compliance with
applicable policies, procedures and governmental standards; and maintenance of
the Power Solutions Environmental, Health, Industrial Hygiene and Safety
Programs for the facility.


How you will do it

  • Develop and
    administer effective occupational health, safety, environmental, ergonomics and
    industrial hygiene programs, including health services functions and
    maintenance of related policies and procedures.

  • Update and
    implement plant programs for the prevention and control of EHS risks, including
    reduction of risk, prevention of injuries, hygiene, compliance with air
    permits, construction permits, solid and hazardous wastes, wastewater
    operations, release notifications and all semi-annual, annual, bi-annual and
    one-time reporting requirements.

  • Manage and lead
    the site’s safety and environmental management systems (i.e., OHSAS 18001, ISO
    14001) to ensure conformance with the standards’ requirements and to maintain
    third party registration with the certification body.  Additionally,
    lead’s internal JCI EHS management systems at the plant level such as the
    Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS).

  • Become
    knowledgeable in JCI Best Business Practices and incorporate in EHS programs.

  • Educate, motivate
    and train line supervision and production personnel in good hygiene practices,
    safe work procedures, PPE, etc.

  • Use specialized
    testing equipment, samples, measures and evaluates employee exposures to
    in-plant chemical contaminants, including lead and acid mist; and physical
    agents such as heat and noise exposure.

  • Administer the
    audiometric testing and hearing conservation programs.

  • Monitor, analyze
    and record performance of the plant exhaust and make-up air ventilation

  • Lead
    administration of medical surveillance and biological monitoring programs
    according to OSHA standards and company policies and procedures.

  • Manage the plant
    personal protective equipment, work clothing and safety equipment programs
    according to company standards and operating budget.

  • Administer the
    respiratory protection program, including quantitative fit testing, respirator
    distribution, and training of employees on the care of their respiratory
    protection equipment.

  • Assist in
    administration of the workers’ compensation program, including effective
    medical case management, incident investigation, reporting, record maintenance
    and follow-up.

  • Develop and
    coordinate plant safety and environmental education and training programs.

  • Lead the plant
    safety committee.

  • Maintain current
    awareness of applicable federal, state and local health, industrial hygiene,
    environmental and safety regulations and maintains records accordingly,
    including confidentiality.

  • Assist the line
    organization in conducting risk assessments and developing safe operating
    procedures for all tasks.

  • Accumulate,
    prepare and enter health, industrial hygiene, medical, environmental and safety
    data into the computer system. Analyze data and prepare standard and other
    requested reports for plant and regional management.

  • Maintain
    professional competency through participation in professional education and
    training programs and completion of any necessary requirements to maintain
    professional credentials.

  • Conduct plant wide
    EHS audits. 

  • Analyze and
    interpret results, recommend appropriate corrective actions, conduct root cause
    analysis, communicate results and follow up on issues or concerns through

  • Ensure all
    incidents, including injuries, near misses, internal spills, external releases,
    potential permit non-compliances, failure to comply with reporting deadlines,
    regulatory inspections, or similar incidents are promptly reported to plant
    management and corporate.

  • Supervise the
    plant’s air permit compliance program, including daily inspections, collection
    of required monthly records/calculations, oversight of quarterly inspection
    activities, semi-annual certifications, annual emission reporting, deviation
    management, change management, and training of affected employees.

  • Supervise the
    plant’s solid, hazardous, and universal waste management program and
    activities, including the collection, labeling, accumulation, preparation for
    off-site transportation, emergency planning and reporting.

  • Supervise the
    plant’s wastewater and storm water management programs including compliance
    with applicable permits, conducting required inspections, arranging required
    laboratory analysis of water samples and completing applicable regulatory

  • Overtime is
    required to meet internal and external customer requirements.

What we look for

  • Bachelor's degree
    in Safety Studies, Industrial Hygiene, EHS Management, Environmental
    Engineering/ Sciences or other technically related field.

  • Minimum six years'
    experience in a manufacturing environment with a minimum of 2 years in a
    supervisory/management role.

  • Able to work
    outside of scope of responsibilities.

  • Solid presentation
    and communication skills.

  • Previous
    experience leading safety and industrial health programs, including experience
    with EHS agencies and required reporting.

  • Previous
    experience with establishing, managing and improving plant level EHS programs
    to comply with OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements.

  • Previous
    experience with personal air monitoring and medical surveillance programs

  • Prior use of the
    Microsoft Office; ability to formulate reports, spreadsheets, and
