Environmental Safety & Health Manager (999614)
Description DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads a team of direct reports in accordance with all duties inherent in the role of an MSC Manager including but not limited to; training, coaching, goal setting, performance appraisals and team building. Ensures all locations are compliant with Hazardous Material Shipping, specifically U.S. DOT CFR 49 requirements and supervises the testing and implementation of environmental/hazardous material software at required locations. Provides day-to-day technical advice to the ESH team and department management with regard to various international Hazardous Materials Shipping regulations (i.e. International transport of hazardous materials - EU Dangerous Goods Regulations {ADR}, International Air Transport Assoc. {IATA}, International Civil Aviation Org. {ICAO}, International Marine Dangerous Goods {IMDG}). Responsible for all aspects of environmental regulations as they pertain to products purchased, sold and distributed within the United States and International locations. Typical regulations include: Volatile Organic Compounds, Ozone Depleting Substances, Proposition 65, Right to Know, Lead and Mercury restrictions, Restrictions of Hazardous Substances {RoHS – European Union [EU], China, South Korea}; and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals {EU REACH}. Assists in the development of ESH policies, procedures and program implementations to achieve/maintain compliance and reduce environmental risks associated with product sales and daily operations. Ensures compliance with various safety and regulatory requirements. Maintains required records. Performs required testing/inspections. Supervises the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) process to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, (e.g. DOT, Prop 65, VOC, IMDG, SARA etc.). Prepares clear and concise reports for department management on program activities and develops ESH communications for distribution within the organization. Interfaces with cross functional departments (i.e. Legal, Contracts, Product, Finance) to review EHS issues of importance to the organization. Must be able to lead a cross functional team for a project. Responsible for the development, review and implementation of ESH policies, procedures and standard operating procedures. Travels to various locations to assist with achieving ES&H compliance (i.e. OSHA, EPA, NFPA, etc) by promoting ESH initiatives, conducting training and performing audits. Assists in developing and conducting ESH training. Attends and contributes to meetings to coordinate activities of multiple departments. Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of MSC’s mission. Supervises and coordinates MSC’s hazardous waste management and recycling programs. Responsible for all ESH aspects of the New Item Induction and Quick item Add Processes. Responsible for responding to ESH Questionnaires sent by Customers and Suppliers. Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: College Degree or equivalent is required (Environmental, Safety & Health preferred). 5 years Environmental or Safety Experience is required. 3 years managerial/supervisory experience is required. Familiar with the EHS implications of typical distribution process (Preferred). SKILLS: Strong, effective oral and written skills are required. Proficiency with Microsoft software is required. Excellent analytical, time management, financial, problem solving, leadership and communication skills are required. Knowledgeable of rules, regulations and guidelines of various federal or state agencies governing ESH fields is required. MISCELLANEOUS: 25% travel within the United States.
