Responsibilities and Tasks

The Environmental Specialist will provide leadership in the development and implementation of global/corporate/strategic environmental initiatives and projects.  The Environmental Specialist will provide expertise to the Business Units to ensure environmental regulatory compliance and successful achievement of environmental goals.  The Environmental Specialist will provide strong organizational focus and communication in alignment with Vestas key performance indicators and Vestas’ business objectives. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

1)     Manage environmental activities, to include:

a)     Data collection and management

b)     Regulatory research and evaluation

c)     Auditing

d)     Permit applications and reviews

e)     Regulatory inspections and response

f)       Requests from customers, group Sustainability, and Vestas Business Units

 

2)     Perform ISO 14001 audits:

a)     Report findings

b)     Evaluate and provide recommendations

c)     Monitor audit action item closure

 

3)     Develop and deploy Vestas Environmental Management system (corporate level)

a)     Collaborate with group Sustainability

 

4)     Develop and deploy Vestas Climate strategy, to include:

a)     Sustainable building policy

b)     Fleet management policy

c)     Renewable energy policy

d)     Environmental regulatory requirements

 

5)     Develop and maintain an environmental legal registry for every Business Unit site in North and South America

 

6)     Provide Business Unit support to ensure successful compliance to sustainability aspects and targets

a)     Assist group Sustainability in the identification of aspects and targets

b)     Communicate requirements

c)     Develop plans to ensure success

d)     Assist in deployment activities

 

7)     Facilitate Root Cause Analysis Investigations of serious environmental incidents, including citations.

 

8)     Maintain professional expertise so as to keep the organization aware of regulatory changes that may impact the business.

 

9)     Actively participate in Wind Energy Association and/or other relevant standardization organizations affecting environmental policy for the Wind Industry

 

Education, Training and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent
  • PE or equivalent professional certification required
  • 5-7 years of experience in environmental management, to include waste management, renewable resources/materials, water and energy
  • Climate strategy knowledge (sustainable buildings, green IT, fleet fuel management)
  • ISO 14001 Lead auditor
  • Demonstrated success in full scope policy management.
  • Strong Cooperation and Communication Skills.
  • Cultural understanding/international experience
  • Customer-focused, proactive, and results-oriented
  • Root Cause Analysis Expertise
  • 25% Travel Domestic & International
  • Ability to climb up to 300’ straight ladder
  • Proficiency in M.S. Office, Outlook, and general knowledge of HSE data systems
