What You'll Do
 
At John Deere Power Systems, an Exhaust Aftertreatment Development Engineer develops and optimizes exhaust systems to meet non-road T4 emission legislations. This includes Integrating aftertreatment technologies with engines and vehicles to meet system functional performance and durability requirements and the development of application knowledge, control strategies, and on-board diagnostics. In addition you will:
  • Develop standardized, repeatable AT test protocol for component qualification to meet performance and durability requirements (e.g. mixer, urea doser, NOx sensors, SCR and ammonia slip catalysts).
  • Serve as the technical liaison to DEF doser supplier and be responsible for DEF doser system specifications.
  • Perform bench characterization of DEF dosing products and characterize life time degradation and purging cycles.
  • Develop system performance to demonstrate emission compliance of 8 mode, non road transient and Not to Exceed (NTE) tests and infrequent regeneration adjustment factor (IRAF).
  • Support SCR engine control feature development and demonstrate functionality on engine dyno cells with focus on DEF dosing strategy.
  • Test functionality of aftertreatment system diagnostics and tamper proofing concepts.
  • Support simulation activities for DEF uniformity, flow uniformity, and thermal loss.
  • Have responsibility for one test cell (2 shift operation) and optimization of throughputs.
  • Analyze data and develop performance trade curves and hardware component limits.
  • Develop test cell duty cycles to simulate real world customer usage profiles.
What It Takes
 
We need someone with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and experience with diesel engine design and compression ignition engine performance characteristics. Ideally you will have a BS Degree in Engineering, Mechanical preferred, or equivalent experience. In addition we require:
  • Experience with emission technologies (e.g. fuel, lube, aftertreatment, combustion, controls).
  • Experience with diesel engine certification (8 mode, NRTC, NTE), development, testing, and test lab hardware.
A strong candidate will also have experience with design for 6 sigma, design of experiments, and robust engineering practices.
