As a buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing materials, parts, supplies, and equipment by following established purchasing policies and procedures to optimize price, delivery, and terms. This individual is responsible for purchasing $10 - $20 million per year of products and services and will be responsible for purchasing complex items where detailed specifications are involved. Other responsibilities include:



•Developing specifications and analyzing the value of competing bids

•Carrying out broad assignments usually involving the purchase of important and critical items requiring extensive or specialized knowledge and experience

•Soliciting bids and quotations, reviewing and negotiating purchase contracts for major commitments

•Issuing purchase orders, following up and expediting as necessary and evalating vendor reliability

•Providing guidance and training to lower-level buyers

•Interviewing supplier representatives regarding specifications, costs, inspection, and similar problems relating to parts and equipment

•Developing new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate

•Discussing defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine the source of trouble and take corrective actions.


Requirements


•Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university and a minimum of EIGHT YEARS related experience
•Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred

•Must have strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage multiple vendors

•Exceptional problem solving/decision-making skills combined with the ability to be organized

•Demonstrates the ability to remain flexible in a fast pace environment

•Proficient with the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
