This position will perform all husbandry duties within the Immunology Services animal facilities; including large and small animals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist Intermediate technician with the feeding of all species with in the animal facilities (large and small)
• Assist with the changing of all soiled animal cage units, stalls and pens within the animal facilities to maintain regulatory compliance
• Sanitation of all equipment used in the process of cleaning, walls, hallways, pens, stalls, and run-ins
• Assist with the operation of cage washer and tunnel washer
• Dumping of all animal pans to remove waste and bedding
• Unloading of feed trucks and hay trucks
• Feed all animals; daily, weekends & Holidays. (3rd shift exempt from weekend and Holiday feeding schedules, unless needed)
• GLP/FDA and Good Documentation training required
• Must document sanitation practices
• Bedding of animal pens and stalls
• Observation of animals, reporting health issues
• Assist with the receiving of animals into the facilities
• Must train on specific animal handling according to the guide on Animal Handling and Husbandry. Must understand processes under ABSL-2 conditions
• Help maintain AAALAC accreditation and regulatory compliance
• Assist with shipping animals out of the facility
• Must understand the use of chemicals in the facilities and how to find/read MSDS
Education/Qualifications:
• HS Diploma
• AALAS Certification or eligibility
Experience:
• Experience as an animal caretaker helpful
• Some computer skills
• Good communication skills
