Job Description

Are you good with computers but looking for a little more excitement than is usually experienced in a cubicle? Then join the Army National Guard as a Field Artillery Tactical Data System Specialist. As part of an elite field artillery team, you will operate tactical data systems on a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) while learning in-demand computer skills.

The Army National Guard Field Artillery Tactical Data System Specialist plays an integral role in team operations by establishing, maintaining, and operating communications systems; preparing computer centers; setting up field artillery tactical data systems; and determining target locations using computers or manual calculations.

As your skills increase, so will your responsibilities. Advanced team members supervise and train other Soldiers, as well as perform higher-level technical duties, such as fire mission processing, fire plan scheduling, database construction, initiating computer center operations, and performing maintenance on section equipment. Plus, the skills you learn as a Field Artillery Tactical Data System Specialist prepare you for a lucrative civilian career working with computer and communications systems.

Earn while you learn

Instead of paying to learn these skills, get paid to train. As an Army National Guard Field Artillery Tactical Data System Specialist, you will receive these valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance.

Following Basic Training, where you learn fundamental Soldiering skills, you will attend approximately seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Instructors at AIT provide a combination of hands-on and classroom training, allowing you to learn how to decisively compute target locations, proper ammunition handling techniques, system operations, and artillery tactics.
