How you will do it







Under
minimal direction, establishes project commissioning priorities, works with
the Operations Team to schedule commissioning activities, and ensures that
work plans and field equipment is available and ready to complete the
work.  Documents all commissioning
tasks as completed and ensured project documentation is created and saved
with permanent project records and conforms to manufacturer’s requirements to
fulfill warranty obligations. 
Responsible for demonstrating controls application capabilities and
provides customer training. 
Responsible for obtaining project closeout signoff from customer.  Provides 360-degree feedback to engineering
team for continuous improvement of our product designs and maintains field
notes for such feedback.  Responsible for
establishing an ongoing partnership with the customers on assigned
projects.  Provides assistance to the
Business development team for guidance on how to scope new projects and
provide feedback on applicability and capabilities of the systems.  Leads & mentors less knowledgeable
engineers.



 
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Responsible
    for self-managing commissioning schedules for field installations in
    coordination with project managers, engineering team, and the Dir of
    Operations.

  • Assess and
    provide direction on requirements for project development opportunities for
    requirements related to the communications and controls integrations necessary
    for selected applications to utilize our Energy Storage Systems.

  • Assess and
    design network interfaces with customer networks to identify acceptable
    connection methodologies to comply with customer security protocols.

  • Provide
    direct on-site commissioning duties including installation of battery modules, torqueing
    battery terminals to specified torque requirements, field documentation of
    commissioning activities, and assessing readiness to energize our energy
    storage systems.

  • Demonstrated
    capability to assess hazards and identify safety requirements and mitigation
    methods for working in and around energized electrical parts including PPE
    assessment, lockout tagout methods, and identifying all job related hazards per
    NFPA 70E standards.

  • Demonstrated
    knowledge of communications systems and methods for physically connecting
    together networks including single and multi-mode fiber, ethernet, RS485,
    RS232, CANBUS and other physical networking wiring methods.

  • Demonstrated
    knowledge of communication layer protocols including Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet,
    CANBUS, BACNET, Serial communications including the development of ModBUS maps.

  • Demonstrated
    understanding of data structures and datatypes.

  • Demonstrated
    capability to work with third party control and communications programs for
    upgrading third party device firmware, connecting between networks, programming
    routing tables, assigning IP addresses for devices, etc.

  • Implement
    and assist other engineers with design for manufacturability (DFM) to ensure
    that the design of components will optimize the manufacturing and assembly
    process.  Ensure that the design of all
    components facilitates handling throughout the product life cycle, from
    shipping through disassembly and recycling.

  • Demonstrated
    capability to provide customer facing support in the development of projects
    and in field commissioning of projects.

  • Demonstrated
    capability to independently troubleshoot and provide scalable solutions for
    challenges encountered in the field.

  • Actively
    participates in relevant professional organizations, takes on leads roles
    within those organizations.

  • Maintains
    relevant professional certifications and licenses (e.g., NFPA 70E Training,
    Network Design Certifications, etc.).

  • Responsibility
    for the promotion and adherence of JCI safety policies.

  • Performs
    other related duties as assigned.


The
Field Systems Engineer functions and performs under the guidance and direction
of the Director of Operations.  The
purpose of this position is to design to meet application requirements, to
assist in the coordination of product development to meet program timelines,
and to support integration, customer launch and service in the field.












What we look for


  • Bachelor of
    Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
    from accredited four-year college or university

  • 5+ years
    related work experience (commissioning energy production and/or storage systems)
    or equivalent.  Lesser amounts of
    experience may be acceptable on a case by case basis.

  • At least two
    years’ experience with communications and development tools

  • Experience
    with 1000VDC battery systems

  • Previous
    NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training and Arc Flash Safety Training

  • Experience
    with 480Vac 3-phase Inverters a plus

  • Proficient
    in computer software, including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite, Minitab,
    and MatLab, PLC controls, Visual Basic or other programming languages.

  • Solid
    communication and organizational skills

  • Excellent
    interpersonal skills


 

ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:


Able to lift/handle battery components weighing
up to 50 lbs


Travel expectation is between 25% and 50%, including
North America, Hawaii, and interesting international destinations.
