Department Overview
Storage and Availability Management Group (SAMG) focuses on providing enterprise and large enterprise customers with storage and server management, data protection, and application performance management solutions across heterogeneous storage and server platforms. Key products in the Storage and Availability Management Group include Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas CommandCentral Storage and Veritas Cluster Server product lines. Each of these solutions is available across all major UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems, enabling IT organizations to reduce cost and complexity through standardization on storage and availability management solutions from Symantec.
Responsibilities
The file system group at Symantec is looking for an architect-level developer for its file system team. The successful candidate will work with a team of file system engineers on performance, scalability and feature enhancements to the VERITAS File System (VxFS) and Cluster File System (CFS). In addition to various AIX versions the candidate will get exposure to and work with the following UNIX platforms: Solaris, Linux and HP-UX.
• Guide VxFS and CFS architectural direction, designing new solutions and enabling new capabilities of the AIX kernel and OS environment such as virtualization with VxFS/CFS • Handle customer escalations and interfacing with other product architects and engineering organizations within Symantec
Qualifications
• 8+ years of industry experience in kernel development and C programming skills are required • Possession of product development experience in storage subsystems, system-level programming and debugging on AIX and UNIX • Intimate knowledge of AIX internals, especially the VMM layer, POWER assembly language and debugging tools such as kdb • Successful candidate should be a team player able to work closely with other developers, customers and represent Symantec in technical forums • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering required. MSCS or MSCE preferred
