Finance Manager
Basic Function & Nature:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, this position is responsible for financial functions such as preparation of reports, audits and statements relative to financial transactions, operation cost and inventory, and prepares recommendations that assist management in meeting plant, division, and corporate goals and objectives. This position has the primary responsibility for the preparation of the annual budget, monthly and quarterly forecasts, and for reporting current status against these documents and recommending courses of action to overcome variance situations. This position must ensure that the financial transactions are conducted in a legal and ethical manner and in compliance with corporate financial policy.
This position is the primary financial authority at the plant and must, therefore, provide financial advice and training to plant personnel and the Vice President of Operations.
Essential Functions:
· Prepare the plant’s annual operation budget, including production, shipping, inventory, costs, and staffing, capital and expense levels. Monitors performance and variance to budget and recommends action appropriate to achieve plan.
· Directs the month end closing process ensuring compliance to established closing schedules. Analyzes variances from forecast, prior year and budget, prepares financial statements, and presents to local leadership team.
· Implements cost system & reports that identify immediate potentially detrimental problems and impact on revenue loss. Makes recommendations based on this to correct identified problems.
· Conducts presentations and training on accounting procedures for managers and other members of the plant’s workforce.
· Conducts the annual capital asset inventory and updates register accordingly.
· Writes instructions for the annual physical inventory and assures its accuracy, providing all necessary cut-off tests as required by the internal auditor.
· Ensure the department establishes and maintains procedures and processes to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required; graduate degree, CPA, or CMA preferred.
· Three to five years of experience in Accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment, and prior supervisory and leadership experience strongly preferred.
· Must possess strong analytical skills and ability to identify trends, discrepancies, or changes in financial results and metrics.
· Must possess the ability to work as a team member at a local and corporate level, strong oral and written communication skills, a strong penchant for timeliness and accuracy, and a desire to continuously improve team and company operations.
· Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint) required; Oracle experience highly desired.
· Experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment a plus.
