Financial Advisor (Harris Investor Services)

Financial Advisor

Building strong relationships while helping clients achieve their goals through careful financial planning is the foundation of M&I Financial Advisors, Inc. ("MIFA") client experience. M&I Financial Advisors, Inc. offers financial planning and advice utilizing a variety of products including investments, insurance, and banking products to meet our clients’ diverse and changing needs.


Primary Function:

Successfully increase assets under management and revenue through direct sales of available products and services. Key areas of focus include:  Business Development, Sales, Compliance, Customer Service, Team Building and Technical Skills. Our Financial Advisors generate new business by developing their natural market, leveraging the internal resources that exist within the Bank Network, and expanding existing client relationships. Overall responsibilities include meeting or exceeding annual production, referral and client retention goals while operating within the scope of all industry and organizational rules and regulations.     

Specific responsibilities include:

• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with line of business partners through effective and continuous communication to foster cooperation and increase referrals. Actively cross-selling and referring to other areas within the organization.
• Increasing assets under management by prospecting Bank customer base through outbound calling campaigns, conducting seminars and cultivation of branch employee referrals.
• Developing relationships with centers of influence and participating in community activities and business groups, while identifying prospecting opportunities within the community.
• Obtaining referrals from your existing clients by asking to be introduced to people who need your services.
• Working natural market to develop business and referral opportunities for business partners.
• Developing and recommending financial strategies to best meet clients’ needs and working with clients to develop financial and retirement plans utilizing appropriate guidance tools.
• Managing client relationships to retain and increase assets.
• Providing training to branch personnel to increase their knowledge level and ability to profile and refer clients.  Training focus may include: profiling, financial planning concepts, product features and benefits, and specific sales ideas, etc.
• Actively participating in and from time to time organizing team business development activities (e.g. calling events, BMO Harris Linkages meetings, etc.).
• Providing feedback to internal referral sources regarding referral results.  Contact leads provided to you by our various internal lead generation programs.  Provide timely and accurate status updates.
• Providing superior service to client base.
• Compliance with firm and regulatory requirements and policies. Maintenance of accurate client records as required by the firm, regulatory authorities and the nature of the client relationship.

Job Requirements:

• 3 - 5 years of successful sales experience in the financial planning, securities, or insurance industry.
• Series 7 and 66 (or 63 & 65) licenses are required, Insurance producer’s license is required within 120 days of hire.
• Strong working knowledge of financial industry.
• Strong prospecting skills.
• Demonstrated ability to sell and refer financial opportunities.
• Confidence, self-motivation, and strong desire to sell investment products.
• Experience working with managed products and providing fee-based advice and/or financial planning services a plus. Working knowledge of a Financial Planning Process or comprehensive client profiling system, including goal analysis and asset allocation.
• Excellent communication, organizational, (one-on-one and group) presentation and client relationship  management skills.
• High level of integrity. Acceptable compliance record from prior position(s).
• PC skills and systems knowledge. Knowledge of client management technology helpful.
• High school education or equivalent work experience required, College degree and CFP preferred.
• Bilingual a plus.
