Practice Management Development Financial Advisor Trainee Job Description

 

Position Summary:

The Practice Management Development (PMD) Financial Advisor Trainee is in a pre-production role with the express goal of attaining a Merrill Lynch production number. The training begins with an orientation to the strategies and principles of the firm. The training activities in this position are designed to provide a foundation of requisite skills and knowledge needed to serve in the capacity of a fully licensed and registered Financial Advisor. Training in this position normally lasts approximately four (4) months in the case of a new hire who joins the Firm without Series 7 and 66 registrations.  For the new hire who joins the Firm already licensed, (i.e. has their Series 7 and 66 licenses) the Trainee period may last no longer than 4 weeks from their date of hire.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Registration and Licensing Requirement: A Financial Advisor Trainee is required to obtain necessary licensing and registrations (Series 7 and Series 66 and Insurance).

 

·         Education requirement: Financial Advisor Trainee is required to begin an accredited Certified Financial Planner (CFP) ? Investment Planning Course.

 

·         Development Assessment: An FA Trainee needs to attain satisfactory scores (i.e.: medium or high) in the PMD Development Assessment I. In preparation for the assessment, the Financial Advisor Trainee studies a variety of topics and may participate in developmental activities in the areas including but not limited to: Merrill Lynch strategy, products & services, wealth management process, desk top technology, marketing consultative sales skills and investment financial planning knowledge.

 

Practice Management Development (PMD) Financial Advisor Job Description

 

Position Summary:

 

The PMD Financial Advisor position is a fully licensed retail broker position that provides investment advice and recommendations to clients. This position begins with the assignment of a Merrill Lynch production number and has a duration of 39 months. This position continues to focus on the development of skills and knowledge needed to provide a wide range of wealth management and investment strategies in order to better service the our clients needs. In addition to meeting the performance hurdles of the program, this position will be required to:

 

·         Formulate and conduct marketing strategies to develop and enhance client relationships

·         Analyze and determine client?s financial resources, needs and objectives

·         Formulate strategies to meet client objectives

·         Advise client on appropriate financial strategies, including the purchase and sale of financial products and services

·         Implement solutions agreed to by the client;

·         Review progress toward the client?s goals & objectives;

·         Strictly adhere to compliance and industry regulations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         The PMD Financial Advisor is expected to meet the performance and development requirements of the PMD Program and transition to a Financial Advisor at the conclusion of the PMDP (LOS 36 months). Details on these requirements can be found in the PMDP Program guide.

·         Education requirements: A PMD Financial Advisor is required to pass two (2) accredited Certified Financial Planner (CFP) course during this period. They are the CFP Investment Planning Course (within Stage 1) and CFP Financial Planning Course no later than Stage 2 LOS month 24.

·         Development Assessment: A PMD Financial Advisor must successfully complete Developmental Assessment III by Stage 2 LOS month 12 and Developmental Assessment IV by Stage 2 LOS month 24.

 

This position engages in:

 

·         Activities to determine a client?s investor profile, financial resources objectives, time horizon and preferences

·         Providing advice and guidance to clients on investment and related wealth management strategies

·         Recommendation of investment products and services that are suitable for prospects and clients based on their objectives, resources, time horizon, risk profile and preferences;

·         Appropriate recommendations across the ?Total Merrill? product and services platform, based on client?s needs and preferences

·         Prospecting meetings and activities to develop new client relationships and identify qualified leads

·         Planning and management of resources (time, people, budget) to run a productive practice, on both a day-to-day and longer-term plan

·         Providing existing and prospective clients with information regarding a wide range of financial products and services

·         Seeking the expertise of specialists, where appropriate, to identify planning and investment strategies for a client

·         Establishing and maintaining relationship with Management team and informing management of any circumstances that require supervisory attention/review/approval as per compliance guidelines and policies

·         Completing mandated training and continuing education requirements as requested.

Qualifications:

·         Bachelors degree

·         Previous outside sales experience ? 3-years

·         Series 7 registration preferred

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Strong financial acumen
