Assignment Capsule
The Market Finance team provides guidance to Market leaders through financial planning (development of annual strategic plans, budgets and monthly projections), performance analysis (budget variance and trend analysis), evaluating the impact of issues to strategies and budget, developing profit improvement action plans to achieve budget, assessing the competitive environment, influencing the selling, pricing, and cost management processes, and evaluating expansion opportunities.

The Market Finance Consultant is responsible for supporting the Market Finance Director to drive these activities to ensure profitable growth and execution of the Market's strategic plan and budget. The Market Finance A Consultant's function will include and are limited to:

  • Prepare accurate and timely annual Underwriting Margin budget, in conjunction with Corporate Finance.
  • Monitor administrative expenses with focus on Full Time Employees, Travel &Entertainment, and Outside Services & Contractors categories. Report on variances (per Corporate Guidelines) on an accurate and timely basis. Prepare high Medical Expense Ratio (loss ratio) account analysis on an accurate and timely basis.

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial projections (FINGAP), monthly from January-November.
  • Create spreadsheet forecasting models and develop database tools to assist senior management in provider/customer negotiations, to measure growth and monitor profitability.
  • Act as market's primary analytical resource to examine trends in medical costs (actual vs. budget vs. expected for market vs. benchmarks) using tools provided or through the creation of new tools, as needed. Responsible for proposing corrective action plans.
  • Support the development and monitoring of Network and Clinical cost management initiatives by actively participating in the Local Market Trend Committee to achieve the Market's financial plan. Actively participate in Market Clinical Operations meetings.
  • Establish and demonstrate deep understanding of our cost of care, especially unit costs.
  • Prepare ad hoc provider analyses as requested by the Network and Clinical teams.
  • Assist in preparation for Local Market Trend Committee presentation to the Corporate Medical Cost Trend Committee.
  • Prepare financial projections (current year and next year) in conjunction with annual strategic plan.
