Fire Protection/Safety Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION
Nuclear Facility in Southeastern Idaho has an immediate opening for a Fire Protection/Safety Engineer (FSE). The FSE shall perform the roles and responsibilities outlined in DOE Std 1137-2007 and as outlined below. The FSE will be responsible for interpreting, applying and, when necessary, clarifying the applicable Fire Protection (FP), life safety and FP-related loss control requirements and for the development or review of the following FP-related products:
- Establish, administer and maintain up-to-date copies of the proper editions of the applicable FP-governing requirements documents.
- Ensure that interpretations of FP-governing requirements are distributed and documented in an auditable form, and be responsible to update or revalidate requirements implicit in current waivers and equivalencies.
- Participate in special assignments and collateral tasks related to FP. Assist, as necessary, in the maintenance of a comprehensive list of FP-related deficiencies in a local tracking system.
- Review, author and/or provide oversight for all technical aspects of Fire Hazard Analysis' (FHAs), including obtaining support from emergency services personnel, engineers and management.
- Review and prepare design documents, plans and specifications for new buildings/structures and modifications to existing buildings/structures to ensure that the applicable FP, life safety and FP-related loss control requirements are met.
- Author or assist requesting organizations in developing equivalency and waiver requests to ensure that they are technically accurate and adequately justified.
- Establish a tracking program to update or validate each request if required.
- Participate in the development of written criteria for subcontractors of FP program.
- Coordinate development and track completion of FP corrective action plans.
- Participate and/or perform periodic assessments related to fire protection.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Fire Safety Engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 3.2 GPA is preferred.
The Fire Protection/Safety Engineer shall be a qualified fire protection/safety engineer with a Professional Engineering (PE) license. Five years experience. Qualifications that meet the requirements of DOE Std 1137-2007 (Fire Protection Engineering Functional Area Qualification Standard) and licensed PE in the State of Idaho are preferred alternatives. Familiarity with HASS Hydraulic Modeling software preferred, but not required. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required.
