Operator, Flow Cytometry Shared Research Facility (2 Positions Available)
Tasks include operation of three types of flow cytometric cell sorters, providing assistance to users of analytical flow cytometers, instrument maintenance and alignment.
Ideal Qualifications
MS or PhD with experience in flow cytometry, in particular in cell sorting, who wants to create a path for a future career in developing this technology and providing service using this technology.
Alternative Qualifications
New graduate who has no plans to enter a PhD program, but wants to develop a career in science. Must have impressive GPA with and exceptional attention to detail and strong interest in science. Principle Invesigator will train a dedicated and motivated individual.
Career Pathing
Remember when beginning in cytometry, there are a number of other fields to be consider such as pathology, molecular biology, plant biology, immunology, and marine biology. Cytometry is also used in these fields as well as it can be helpful especially in the field of molecular biology, so it can help to be familiar if not proficient with some information in other fields that cytometry is used.
Flow cytometry specialists get very competitive salaries, and, with enough experience, can find very lucrative positions industry or as core facility directors in academia. If the candidate has engineering skills, technology development, patents and publications could also be possible.
