GFS Record to Report Lead

About the Job

The Record to Report Leader will report to the VP & Site Lead of Global Financial Solutions in Memphis and lead a high-performing team of Pfizer finance accounting professionals and external consultants across complex US and Global process areas.

  • Lead the development and implementation of the strategic direction and delivery of complex accounting and financial reporting requirements
  • Leads a large team of finance and accounting professionals (including contractors) responsible for meeting business essential deliverables that are both US centric and global including the following:

US

  • US accounting activities including but not limited to debt and treasury accounting, third-party royalty accounting (expense and income) employee benefit accounting, escheatment, pension, stock compensation, restructuring and accounting and external/SEC financial reporting for approximately 20 employee and retiree benefit plans
  • Corporate accounting activities including but not limited to the close and data submission activities, flash and analytical reporting, account ownership and reconciliation, financial reporting, joint venture accounting and reporting, external audit support, select business unit segmentation activities and US GAAP/SEC external financial reporting
  • Responsible for maintenance, delivery and compliance for all site wide (Memphis) Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements.

Global

  • Development of approach and implementation of solution for new and global Lease Accounting & Reporting requirements including the establishment of a global center of excellence and implement new enabling technology (across F&BO)
  • Development of approach and implementation of global shared service center of excellence responsible for the coordination and governance for all Close activities, deliverables and milestones including functioning as single point of contact for all close stakeholders across the Pfizer finance organization (across global GFS)
  • Leadership of global Balance Sheet Center of Excellence responsible for managing the consolidated Pfizer balance sheet including but not limited compliance, quality, training, reporting and analytics (across F&BO)
  • Leadership of coordination and delivery of quarterly global Certification requirements prescribed by Pfizer accounting policy (across F&BO)
  • Leadership of implementation of new regulatory and/or Pfizer accounting policies including associated impact assessments and change management activities (across F&BO and GFS)

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provide thought leadership, knowledge sharing and technical expertise through a number of GFS and Pfizer forums including the Global GFS R2R Leadership Team, Controllers Business Partner Board, Treasury Business Partner Board, Corporate Audit Business Partner Board and various other operational forums and communities of practice involving senior leaders from F&BO

  • Develop and lead strategic initiatives that result in changes to the Pfizer finance operating/service delivery model through further leveraging of the GFS value proposition
  • Develop and deliver frequent operational and project updates to members of the F&BO leadership team
  • Develop and deliver on recurring and annual continuous improvement initiatives that delivery on core value proposition of quality and compliance as well as delivery of the annual financial targets associated with ownership of largest functional budget (LE) within GFS
  • In partnership with geographical site leads and global GFS Lead develop and implement rolling 3 year strategies focused on both operations and culture.
  • Lead and/or partner with FPMO, Controllers, Business Development and/or Commercial Finance on strategic M&A initiatives and supporting activities such as:
    • Developing and executing TSA agreements
    • Establishment of opening and closing balance sheets including the preparation of carve-out financial statements
    • Coordinating external activities globally
    • Leading development and execution of legal entity separation
  • Lead operational integration of acquisitions and achievement of financial synergy requirements.
  • Develops and lead transformations initiatives including M&A, changes in operating/service delivery model, technology change and emerging digital technologies including automation, cognitive and blockchain. Models leadership to entire F&BO organization
  • Influence without direct authority resources both within the GFS shared service organization and the broader Pfizer finance organization including but not limited to Controllers, Treasury, Enabling Finance, PGS Finance and Global Tax
  • Proactively monitor cross-functional initiatives that impact people, processes and technology to ensure alignment, maintain agility and mitigate disruption to operations 
  • Lead the maintenance of an effective internal control structure ensuring compliance with Pfizer policy and US GAAP, while proactively managing existing and new risks

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS Degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or other business related field required

  • CPA required, MBA and public accounting experience preferred

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience of accounting and finance experience required in a Corporate Finance, Shared Service, and Public Accounting environment with direct oversight over large teams of professionals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working across multiple levels (including executive level), functions and regions; Strong understanding of Pfizer financial processes; systems related experience a strong plus

  • Demonstrated experience managing accounting and reporting teams in a complex and global environment

  • Strong business acumen and professionalism with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues in all functional areas of the Company

  • Ability to work in a high-performing team environment
