GIS Analyst
About the Job
This technical position involves developing, implementing, and maintaining large enterprise-wide application systems or complex networks of microcomputer, telecommunications, automation systems or business requirements analysis. Responsibilities may include design and development of systems and/or enhancements to existing systems, capable of fully meeting business needs and objectives. Staff in this classification perform a full range of system support functions requiring a technical computer support background. Work is performed under supervision.
Sample Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge of ESRI’s GIS software products including ArcGIS Desktop and Workstation, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Extensions, ArcSDE, ArcView with Extensions, ArcInfo
• Knowledge and experience in the operational use and technical support of geospatial databases utilizing the ESRI suite of tools
• Knowledge and experience in loading and management of multiple types of geospatial data (both Raster and Vector)
• Knowledge of ArcGIS data models
• Knowledge of raster compression and data storage software and methods
• Skilled in the use of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
• Analyzing programming needs for GIS applications
• Developing programs, procedures, and applications using GIS and related software tools.
• Install, deploy, configure, test, monitor, troubleshoot, and repair production systems running ESRI’s server products, and provide support to respond, troubleshoot, and repair applications and systems as needed
• Applying GIS technology to perform data manipulation, perform spatial analysis, and produce reports
• Participating in activities related to the research, development, and implementation of GIS system standards, including but not limited to databases, applications, standard operating procedures and training programs
• Providing input for the design and implementation of future components of the Enterprise GIS, including justification and costing information
• Strong knowledge of the methods, principles, and practices used in map preparation; the basic principles of cartographic technology, and the terminology, technical symbols, equipment, and instruments of cartographic drafting
• Knowledge of writing scripts such as SQL, and various object oriented programming languages (C++, Java, JavaScript) in support of ESRI related GIS applications and databases
Specific Project Duties
The assigned individual will report directly to the Manager of Production Support, Department of Technology, in connection with the performance of the Services under this Contract. The Contractor shall perform services and support for the County’s technology infrastructure. Experiences shall include, but are not limited to:
• Graduated from a four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, or related field.
• At least 5 years professional experience implementing and maintaining complex GIS solutions involving relational database management systems.
