GL Accountant
Position Description:
RealNetworks, Inc. is a rapidly growing, web based, digital music, online gaming and streaming company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, that provides the universal platform for the delivery of any digital media, from any point of origin, across virtually any network, to any person on any Internet-enabled device, anywhere in the world.
The GL Accountant will be responsible for all activities surrounding the RealNetworks corporate general ledger. He or she will play a major roll in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process including preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and preparing audit schedules. This person will also help implement and enforce rules and processes related to the chart of accounts and all GL postings.
Essential Functions:

1. Assist the Accounting Manager in the coordination and performance of the monthly financial close process. This will include maintaining the close schedule, completing complex and simple account reconciliations, processing fixed assets and capitalized expenditures, and assisting in the review and analysis of account trends and fluctuations. 25%
2. Prepare and review journal entries for accuracy and compliance with company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ensure that all journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end support files are kept in audit-ready condition. 15%
3. Understand the GL structure and maintain the chart of accounts. Analyze transactions to ensure accurate coding. Correct coding errors and train other personnel on accurate coding. 15%
4. Maintain internal control structure and make recommendations for process improvements which will increase efficiency. Identify and manage key performance metrics of the GL. 15%
5. Key contributor in annual audits and quarterly reviews. 15%
6. Support management through ad hoc data collecting, reporting, analysis and special projects. 15%
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum:
Strong working knowledge of GAAP and the ability to identify issues and perform research on complex issues. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently. Highly motivated with the desire and skill set to move up in a growing finance organization. Experience working with databases and exposure to a report writer tool. Experience with Fixed Asset accounting.
Preferred:
Knowledge of Oracle Financials, especially around GL functionality. Experience with Business Objects, Oracle FSG’s, ADI, and Hyperion Reporting.
Education, Certification, and/or Training:
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Preferred:
CPA and or MBA
Experience:
Minimum:
3+ years of experience in public accounting or industry.
Preferred:
Experience in a multiple company environment. GL experience in a public company.
