JOB DESCRIPTION
German Localization Specialist
In this role, you will localize software strings in various file formats using proprietary and industry-standard software translation memory tools. Additional responsibilities will include the following:
• Translate into German on-line help, user documentation, tutorials, and marketing materials authored in Microsoft Word, RoboHELP, FrameMaker, Arbortext, etc. • Prepare translated documents and files for publication or on-line presentation, including screen capture and placement, running scripts, and using common pre-print production and conversion tools (Adobe Distiller, etc.). • Utilize translation tools (WorldServer, Trados, CATALYST, Passolo) and maintain translation memory. • Participate in creating, updating, and maintaining in-house technical glossaries, terminology databases and style guidelines. • Perform linguistic quality assurance for localized products. • Fix linguistic software defects in the target-language software. • Communicate under general supervision of localization manager or project manager with localization vendors and in-country field representatives. • Work closely with development and technical documentation department to fulfill project specifications. • Participate in on-going tool use process definition and analysis. • Plan own time schedule to accomplish tasks and goals.
Requirements
• Native fluency in German (written, spoken) • Minimum 2 years of technical translation or localization experience, preferably with PLM and MCAD material. • Degree in translation, language, or technical field of study (e.g., mechanical engineering, computer science) • Excellent technical translation skills. • Strong communication skills in both English and the target language; strong organizational and interpersonal skills Desirable • Working knowledge of translation tools, e.g., Trados, CATALYST, Passolo, WorldServer. • Working knowledge of UNIX, Win2K, Microsoft Word, and graphics and web-based applications. • Microsoft Word publishing experience.
Basic Qualifications • Bachelor Degree in translation, language, engineering or computer science.
