Job Summary:
This is a key role supporting the implementation of strategic corporate (supply chain) objectives. The major focus of this job will be to coordinate procurement and logistics projects and commodity management. This will include conducting opportunity assessments and the execution of targeted programs in order to better leverage our global spend, the negotiation and management of supplier contracts and business relationships, managing the activities and results of projects and the realization of our corporate objectives for improved costs, quality and delivery. Establish relationships with Business Unit internal customers and provide periodic needs assessments.
Manages the purchasing function. Receives and grants approval for purchases of goods or services. Develops policies, procedures, and material control systems to ensure timely, cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning, and quality control of materials.
Primary Roles and Principal Accountabilities:
· Strategic Sourcing: Performs opportunity analysis to identify projects that will deliver significant cost savings and value improvement. Lead multi divisional cross-functional teams in the development of sourcing strategies for key direct and indirect expenditure categories. Conduct supplier/market research and track global manufacturing and sourcing environment on selected categories. Proactively develop, recommend and implement business cases and solutions. Support individual sourcing projects and/or a set of assigned commodities by deploying best practices, procurement tools, and negotiation skills. Develop and track global procurement metrics including areas of spend analytics and supplier performance. To drive procurement strategy development and implementation, providing expertise in process and methodologies.
· Analyzes Changes or new issues in materials and supply to reduce costs and improve quality.
· Manages the strategic sourcing process and develops and implements supply chain-related e-business strategies.
· Project Team Leader. Coordinate project team activities, challenge team members, attain the objectives as agreed by the team to keep time lines, support conflict resolution, coordinate work packages and communication with the project team. Communicate with internal divisional customers, suppliers, external customers and other professional peers from other organizations.
· Commercial. Provide a commercial ‘point of contact’ company-wide, for suppliers of assigned commodities. Implement, monitor and update commercial agreements with selected suppliers. Monitor, interpret and communicate changing marketplace and supplier conditions. In conjunction with the appropriate commodity team develop and initiate strategic and tactical actions to maintain a competitive position, update commercial arrangements, and address issues.
· Supplier Relationship Management. Maintain healthy relationships between the company and the supplier community. Ensure that materials in the supply chain are available as scheduled and inventory is maintained at acceptable levels. Ensure that appropriate communication occurs with all appropriate levels and functions. For all alliance suppliers, in conjunction with the commodity team, develop and maintain guiding principles and objectives for the alliance. Monitor mutual adherence to the letter and the spirit of agreements.
· Internal Customers. Communicate all commercial and other information to internal customers. Make sure all stakeholders receive periodic, timely information on all changes or issues relative to the commodity, supplier or the company. Seek feedback and dialog. Establish and encourage the use of a supplier forum to maintain documentation, hold discussions and problem solve. Respond promptly to requests for resources, information, clarifications and concerns; share best practices and network with other supply managers.
· Supplier Development. In conjunction with the commodity team: eliminate or streamline administrative functions, share in a two-way fashion best practices, develop and implement improvement ideas and when appropriate, conduct supplier improvement initiatives. Seek out ways to integrate suppliers into the business that will reduce cost and improve performance. Maintain a relentless focus on continuous improvement for mutual gain.
· Performance Measurement Monitoring. Make sure that appropriate measures of performance (in terms of total cost/total value/service levels, etc.) are in place and monitored over time. Take the lead in establishing, gathering and reporting KPI’s for a given project, customer or supplier relationship. Coordinate SPM activities with project teams. Performance measure monitoring activities include: monitoring and updating corporate scorecard. SPM activities include: establishing performance criteria, measures, weights, and reporting intervals, maintaining a corrective action process, gathering input, preparing for and holding evaluations, and updating corporate scorecard.
· Supervises direct reports.
· Establishes individual performance objectives and reviews performance against goals. Provides counseling. Plans, approves, and implements programs for the timely development and progression of the individuals. Plans grants salary increases as appropriate. Handles discipline and documentation steps in problem employee situations.
· Perform other related duties as required.

STRATEGIC SOURCING:
Understanding of supply chain management and its components. Experience in applying strategic sourcing principles and methodologies to direct and indirect spend categories. Effective negotiation skills. Experience with e-sourcing tools a plus. Ability to conduct and manage supplier relationships. Ability to lead multi divisional cross-functional teams in the development of sourcing strategies for key direct and indirect expenditure categories.
LOGISTICS:
Understanding of transportation modes (e.g., truckload, LTL, package, bulk rail, or intermodal)
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Typically requires a Bachelors Degree, and a minimum 7 - 9 years directly relevant work experience or a Master’s degree plus 6 years experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience, including 3-5 years of people management experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS and/or FORMAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
C.P.M. desired.
