Global Director of Marketing/New Product Development
Position Overview: A global supplier of bulk material handling solutions with respected brands is seeking a Global Director of Marketing / New Product Development to join a Division in the US. Reporting to the Division’s General Manager, this position will be responsible for managing and leading the global strategic direction of the product, channel and brand managing aspects of the business to drive increased revenue growth, profit, and long term strategic positioning. The Director will conduct market and VOC research to define, quantify, and prioritize new opportunities for additional revenue or margin in each of our global regions through process improvements and product innovation. Once the solutions are defined, one will design and execute the go-to-market strategy for that solution. Primary tasks include: translating customer needs into product specifications; bringing new products to market (either internally developed or sourced form other suppliers); and defining tactical plans on how to globally source our solutions to they meet the different regions’ market values. Working collaboratively with all functional areas of the business, the Director of Marketing / NPD will be tasked with driving an innovative product category and marketing plans to ensure shareholder value creation and competitive advantage for the business. This individual must be a global strategic thinker and have the ability to formulate strategy and clearly map out the critical success factors in delivering against the strategy, yet capable of driving detailed execution. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Drive global business strategy, develop business plans and lead all aspects of the marketing mix, product, brand, and advertising, objectives, plans, and initiatives in order to achieve short and long-term, revenue and profitability goals.
- Work with the domestic and international Sales teams to constantly assess the customer needs in each region and create / modify plans to develop targeted solutions.
- Global Product Strategy & Roadmap – lead the formation and development of the Division’s long-term global and regional product strategy. This includes leading the product strategy process, providing market requirements, mapping the competitive landscape and developing the Division’s sustainable position over the long-term.
- Develop and execute product launch schedules (through the company’s StageGate process) and take ownership of marketing plan (4 Ps’).
- Lead the New Product Development team and oversee pricing, advertising, and collateral materials for the category. This will involve close collaboration with internal cross shared functional groups and outside vendors, as required.
- Evaluate new global product / service solutions based upon product and market research, including Voice Of the Customer studies, competitive product assessments, and input from company sales, service, supply chain, engineering and manufacturing.
- Develop multi-year product line strategies to provide vision and resource planning information to R&D. Maximize return on new product development investment by building business cases for new opportunities and prioritizing product development projects so as to use engineering resources efficiently while producing the maximum impact on sales and market share growth.
- Assess and evaluate the global channels of distribution to devise appropriate channel marketing strategies pertinent to the existing and targeted customer base, and to improve overall results. Also, coordinate and implement programs targeted for specific customers, world regions and market segments.
- Enhance and build global and regional brand awareness in order to capitalize and leverage the company's competitive advantage - brand equity, and product value and quality.
- Assure that all pertinent global market intelligence is gathered and analyzed including a thorough understanding of customer needs, market trends, competitive strengths and weaknesses, and global or regional market opportunities.
- Ensure timely adjustments to changing markets and competitive conditions through continuous analysis of market reaction and customer contact.
- Identify cost savings opportunities and direct values analysis/value enhancement programs to maximize profits and market penetration with respective product lines.
- Develop, champion and refine key marketing processes for the business.
- Instill an atmosphere of creativity and innovation that drives growth and innovation while embracing the operating, cultural values, and principles of the corporation.

Overview of Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a proven and accomplished global marketing lead with significant business accomplishments and a progressive career history most recently in a role as a Director of Marketing in a branded equipment company--ideally a leader with products sold through multiple distribution channels. The Director of Marketing / NPD will be a dynamic natural leader with an exceptional value orientation toward operating excellence; this person will have a passion for driving innovation and process discipline while empowering individuals across the organization. He/She will have a demonstrated track record of success related to developing growth plans and launching new products while proactively entering new markets/channels. A history of successfully influencing teams internally while forging exceptional external relationships with agencies, customers and constituents of the business is paramount. This candidate will possess leadership experience within an environment, which embraces cross-functional, collaborative team driven activities and will have personally developed idea generation capabilities, engagement skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. He/she will have demonstrated ability to lead others, mentor and develop talent. Overall this director is upwardly mobile with the ability, based on performance, to progress beyond this role and advance further within the company. Desired Qualifications: - Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business Management or Marketing Required, MBA strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 8+ years of marketing experience within branded industrial products.
- 5+ years of People Management/ Supervisory experience.
- Experience working in multi-site, multi-cultural global organizations.
- Proven experience building product / service oriented solutions to drive revenue stream, expanding a suite of product offerings and/or repositioning mature product lines to better address current user demands.
- A brand builder that will create a consistent yet innovative marketing approach and segment management capability leveraging the legacy of the brand.
- Previous experience with market / VOC research.
- Previous experience leading new product development.
- General management and strategic skills with complete understanding of the P&L.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to train team to manage projects.
- Financial skills / P&L management.
