AHF has undergone tremendous growth over the years and continues to develop new business lines. The Grant Writer is an essential member of AHF’s business development team. AHF programs are located in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Florida in the US. Its Global Immunity program now operates clinics and provides technical assistance in Africa, Central America/the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Asia.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

- Assists the Associate Director of Business Development, Bids and Proposals, to manage the grant/proposal submission process, which includes, but is not limited to:

* Conducting targeted research on the availability of private and government funds, including the identification of new funding sources, consistent with AHF’s priorities.
* Collaborating with program staff to create compelling & accurate grant proposals.
* Writing letters of inquiry, grant proposals, progress reports, acknowledgment letters, and other correspondence to prospective foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
* Gather and prepare all ancillary materials to accompany grants (financial data, bios, required forms, etc.).
* Work with the management team and program staff to develop proposal/program goals; work with finance staff for budget preparation
* Coordinating with grant officers on grant/proposal submission and reporting.
* Maintaining computer and hard files.
* Attending bidder’s conferences.
* Monitoring trends and opportunities for grant development.

- Reports to the Associate Director of Business Development, Bids and Proposals.

- Attends business development meetings.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Either a BA/BS from a four-year college and three years of experience with grants and contracts or MPH. Experience with HIV or health grants a plus. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.


WRITING SKILLS
Excellent writing and impeccable editing skills and demonstrated ability to write, edit and/or revise a range of technical communications.


COMPUTER/SOFTWARE SKILLS & ABILITIES
Solid computer skills and proficiency in word processing, data base management, spreadsheets, presentation software and Internet research tools.


OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to plan, prioritize and follow through within a given timeframe is critical.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse group under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate with and understand the requirements of professional staff in AHF’s areas of specialty.
- Ability to travel as needed. Travel may be local or domestic depending on AHF’s operations.
- Ability to work under deadline.
