SMART is a software application that is sold with and without consulting services. For partnership tax purposes, the technology component of the practice resides in PricewaterhouseCoopers Product Sales LLC. The LLP provides consulting services and resides in PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and provides recurring client services at an hourly rate.
Other HIM professionals are located in the Albany office as well as in other regions of the country, and support the consulting service which is sold with the SMART software (for additional fees on an hourly basis). These professionals support both SMART development and consulting. The HIM consultants and this practice use the SMART software as an internal resource for their engagements.
The healthcare industry continues to experience major federal regulatory changes e.g., Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). These changes present opportunities for consulting and pull through revenues where we can assist our clients in working through these major regulatory changes. Clinical documentation improvement will continue to be a focus for providers as they try to determine how physician and coding practices need to change in response to these new systems so that revenues will not be at risk. The SMART application and the HIM consulting staff are critical resources to support these pull through consulting opportunities.
