Description

First point of contact for employees and leaders in select national practices or select practices in a geographic area. May be solely assigned to practices/areas with greater complexity and/or size. May handle all practices in a specific location dependent on client numbers. Possesses deep understanding of the business directions/needs of the practices/area, and knows the people and people issues. Helps to ensure successful implementation of key, high-touch people processes and initiatives, in line with the business strategies
Essential Functions of the Job:
Serves as first point of contact for employees and leaders in select practices/areas (ones
to which the People Consultant is officially assigned).
If assigned to support national practices, coordinates and communicates extensively with Service
Line People Leaders to achieve the best possible results for employees in the practice(s).
In coordination with service line People Team Leaders and Leaders:
Helps to execute compensation processes, including:
Merit increases and compensation adjustments
Recognition awards
Success sharing
Supports People Development processes, including:
Performance management, including annual reviews
Career development/mapping, coaching, and mentoring
Integration processes and programs
PPD promotions
Exit interviews including referral for Outplacement counseling, if appropriate
Terminations, including managing litigation risks
Serves as key point of contact for business leaders/partners for the practice or in the geographic area, particularly for national practice leaders (who are not aligned to a geographic Leader)
Serves as first point of contact on employee relations issues; manages/handles issues as appropriate (communicating with People Team Leaders); escalates issues, as needed, to People Team Leaders
Coordinates with Recruitment and Lifelong Relationships to facilitate lifelong relationships, if appropriate, when employees leave the firm
Coordinates with Development Consultants on program implementation (such as Q12 and PeoplePoint)
Coordinates with People Services staff to ensure proper handling of administrative issues and needs
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Detailed knowledge of internal policies and procedures
General knowledge of HR law and practices
Knowledge of Firm-wide Orientation and service line specific orientation programs
Ability to identify and use internal resources
Applies advanced principles and concepts to a wide range of work in a complex functional area. Often acts as project manager for medium/large projects or oversees significant portions of major
or highly complex projects. Technical expertise may substitute for managerial responsibility.
Typically takes ownership of medium/large HR initiatives or manages ongoing HR programs in small/medium areas/ BUs. Some Assistant Directors might have only a subset of HR functions in a large area or practice.
Has established his/her knowledge of diverse HR functions through extensive experience and is recognized for their expertise. Expected to manage complex HR projects with minimal direction.
Supervision Responsibilities:
Works independently on complex projects, although they generally recur. Often manages the work of others.
Receives general direction rather than supervision.
Work is reviewed only for results obtained.
Often has supervisory responsibility. May supervise more junior people consultants

To qualify, candidates must have:
  • a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • approximately 8-10 years of related work experience
  • detailed knowledge of internal policies and procedures
  • general knowledge of HR law and practices
  • knowledge of professional orientation and service line-specific orientation programs
  • the ability to identify and use internal resources
  • the ability to apply advanced principles and concepts to a wide range of work in a complex functional area
  • the ability to serve as a project manager for medium/large projects or oversee significant portions of major or highly complex projects; technical expertise may substitute for managerial responsibility
  • strong customer service, facilitation, conflict management, change management, listening, responding, interpersonal, influencing and project management skills
