HR/Payroll Accountant
The Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) seeks an accountant to be responsible for accounting, reconciliations, auditing, validation, and reporting.
Will provide support to departments, laboratories, and centers (DLCs) throughout MIT and respond to employees regarding payroll issues. Duties include reconciliation of payroll accounts including liability and suspense accounts; payroll audits, validations, and month-end close including journal entries and accruals; reconciling state and federal tax filings; reconciling payroll actuals to general ledger postings for gross pay, net pay, benefits, and related deductions; working collaboratively with payroll team to suggest improvements; researching and resolving transactions; assisting in the annual audit; working with DLC administrators to resolve salary distribution and financial posting issues; and strictly adhering to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with Institute and regulatory standards, policies, and practices. Work will involve collaboration with all groups within Payroll and with other groups within VPF.
Requirements: a minimum of three years' experience in payroll accounting or related field; a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; thorough knowledge of payroll processing, including benefits, taxes, and accounting; strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, customer service, problem solving, and verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail; ability to complete work in a timely manner with minimal supervision and to maintain confidentiality; and proficiency with Excel and Word. Experience with Brio Query and SAP desirable.
