Job Overview

Fully responsible for all dimensions of engineering activities and practices on site, providing leadership to the local engineering team members. The role is part of the Site Leadership team and ensures that TAKEDA´s engineering standards, guidelines, processes and best practices are fully and effectively implemented and that the engineering staff has the capability, training and behaviours to effectively all engineering tasks needed.

The site head of engineering drives Site performance through efficient, effective and innovative project engineering as well as the implementation, qualification and life cycle management of state of the art technology and equipment. He/She develops, drives and improves a best in class site maintenance strategy and is responsible for compliance to GMP standards for both equipment and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety first: drive safety culture and ensure adherence to relevant safety standards throughout the site
  • Propose and define the Work Methodology for Process and Plant Engineering Execution
  • Responsibility for budget planning and implementation of investment and optimisation projects in a two digit million Euro range with cost control for construction measures, including technical facility equipment, process and packaging units, storage and transport technology at the site
  • Budget responsibility for maintenance, facility operation and qualification activities as well as for the site CAPEX plan
  • Manage the Departmental budget and controlling expenses effectively
  • Support and technical supervision of worldwide global product transfer projects up to hand over to production, including all necessary construction and procurement actions for the required equipment
  • Maintain service and maintenance for the entire site and strive for improvements, subject to legal regulations, especially to national and international cGMP guidelines, including European PIC guidelines, FDA regulations and end-user requirements
  • Release of orders (material and services) to third parties
  • Effectively hire, train, develop, and appraise staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with Company policy. Consult with HR as appropriate
  • Set Goals and Priorities for all Engineering activities and Projects
  • Set Goals and Priorities for improving the skills and overall Plant Engineering capabilities of the Site.
  • Leadership of the employees with various qualifications: engineers, technicians, IT specialists, technical clerks, skilled workers mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, management utilities as well as machine shop and electric workshop
  • Responsibility for all qualification measures for buildings as well as technical building equipment, including energy and utilities supply, process units in production and packaging areas as well as storage technology
  • Coordination and supervision of external companies for all construction and installation activities, including instruction on corporate work and safety regulations as well as GMP guidelines and internal GOPs
  • Assurance of constant maintenance and update of technical life-cycle-documentation for the site, including qualification, calibration and maintenance documentation in order to support recurring GMP audits or to represent with competence
  • Ensure Statutory / Legislative compliance with HSE, Quality (cGMP), local regulations and Finance (SOX) requirements for all engineering activities
  • Ensuring the sharing and application of best practices and expertise within his department and sharing with the wider network
  • Ensure the development of sound business cases for new projects

Skills, knowledge and Abilities

Required

  • Degree in engineering (Dipl. Ing. / M. Sc. / B. Sc.) or equivalent (mechanical / process / chemical or equivalent)
  • English essential
  • Experience in complex investment projects
  • Possess a broad understanding of multiple engineering disciplines
  • Effective leadership skills and experience in managing internal and external resources
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Relevant and profound experience in the technical field of the pharmaceutical industry or comparable industrial sector
  • HSE and GxP/QA knowledge
  • Drive and focus on results
  • Building relationships and teamwork
  • Commitment, agility, leadership competence, flexibility as well as independent and team-oriented working practices, also on international level
  • Willingness to face changes and creativity to help form and realise them in a goal-oriented way

Preferred

  • Local Language highly desirable, others helpful
  • Preferable +10 years of general engineering experience thereof +5 years’ experience in management roles
  • Good understanding of the pharmaceutical industry not limited to technical aspects only
  • Good understanding of EHS and Quality aspects in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Production and / or production planning experience in the pharmaceutical industry

Travel requirements

Sporadic travel activities to supplier facilities & FATs; Regional meetings.
