Health Equity Community of Practice Area Coordinator

Altarum Institute, a leading non-profit organization conducting research and consulting services for better health, is seeking an experienced public health professional for a grant-funded project that could develop into a longer term opportunity, based on performance and future funding. The Health Equity Community of Practice Coordinator (CoP Coordinator), working in collaboration with the Health Equity (HE) Research Director and other members of the project team, will be responsible for recruiting, enrolling and facilitating the rapid expansion of the Community of Practice. This CoP will focus on assessments of efforts (i.e., promising strategies, policy advances) implemented to reduce health disparities as well as improve access to and the quality of healthcare using multi-faceted approaches such as community-based activities, operational procedures or capacity building. This CoP will be of interest to change agents, policymakers, and stakeholders interested in practical ways in which public and private entities are working together to improve health and health-related outcomes for disadvantaged, vulnerable populations. The CoP Coordinator will report directly to the HE Research Director.

Some specific responsibilities include:

1. Provide project management for a large-scale, national, multi-customer and multi-partner project including: Develop project goals, timelines and deliverables, integrated project plans, key roles and responsibilities.
2. Manage complete project development and implementation life-cycle and ensure that goals are met.
3. Matrix manage/coordinate internal and external resources to meet objectives. Manage, with the HE Research Director, project governance including Advisory Committee, Project Team, and stakeholder meetings.
4. Communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders regarding key project objectives and steps to ensure buy-in.
5. Arrange logistics for inter-agency efforts and keep agencies on task.
6. Facilitate and manage inter-agency consortium.
7. Act as central coordinator for project team and address/resolve interpersonal or team dynamic concerns as well as manage staff hired for the CoP Project.

The successful candidate should possess:

• Excellent relationship-building skills, as well as strong leadership and team management capabilities, to lead a diverse and dynamic team in the successful delivery of this complex, integrated project
• A deep understanding of project management methodologies, tools and approaches to effectively manage a complex, multi-disciplinary project
• Excellent people and team building skills and ability to be self-motivated, self directed (work with minimal supervision)
• Excellent group facilitation and meeting coordination skills; detail- and results-oriented, a fast learner and flexible
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively
• Ability to work in a time-sensitive, deadline driven environment
o a minimum of 5 years experience working in a public health-oriented setting (i.e., local/state/national health department, private-sector or community-based organization (CBO)) on planning or training projects
o strong knowledge of MS tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
o familiarity with and experience managing virtual and face-to-face meetings and communications including email, conference calling, webinars, bulletin boards and blogs Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree highly preferred or equivalent experience working in public health or health related field
o excellent written/verbal communication skills
o strong technical and analytic skill in using productivity applications, e.g., MS Office Suite, statistical analysis applications such as SAS and SPSS, graphing applications, and research literature databases
Education:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree highly preferred or equivalent experience working in public health or health related field.
