Job Description
The Nutrition Services Clerk is responsible for essential clerical duties associated with the nutritional care and food service to patients; by insuring patients receive food as ordered by their Physician and/or Dietitian. The position ensures patient menus are filled out properly by patient and expedites and ensures correct assembly of patient food trays.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
License or Certification:
* Food Handlers course as required by state or county
Total Education, Vocational Training and Experience:
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* Minimum one-year experience as a Diet Clerk in an acute care facility preferred.
* Communicates effectively in both writing and verbally.
Machines, Equipment Used:
* General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax machine, computer, Calculator, steam tables.
Physical Requirements:
* Good visual acuity and ability to speak and hear.
* Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.
* Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape.
* Sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms and hands to safely arrange, check and load patient trays in food carts.
* Must be able to work with light to moderate supervision.
Skills and Abilities:
* Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English.
* Sit, stand, walk climb, turn, lift, stoops, bend, reach, grasp, use eye-hand coordination, push, pull, carry, see, detect, organize, coordinate, plan, instruct, observe, evaluate, select.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Environmental Conditions:
* Clerical work is performed indoor, temperature controlled, smoke-free environment. Patient contact work is performed on nursing unit and/or in patient's room. All other work performed in kitchen environment. Will be required to lift weights and carry equipment and supplies.
* May be exposed to hazardous cleaning chemicals.
* Exposure to high and low temperature extremes and exposed to extremely hot kitchen equipment.
* No exposure anticipated in normal routine of job. However, exposure may occur if emergency is encountered
* Handicapped accessibility.
* May work under stressful circumstances at times.
Proficiency or Productivity Standards:
* Will be required to work weekdays, weeknights and/or weekends on scheduled shift.
* Will be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
* May be required to work as necessary during disaster situations, i.e. before, during or after a hurricane.
* May be required to stay after workday to assist after a disaster situation until relief arrives.
* Regular attendance and reporting on time to work is a requirement of position.
