IT HELP DESK OPERATION SUPPORT TECHNICIAN 



 


Position Summary:



Midwest Employers Casualty Company (MECC) seeks a Help Desk Operation Support Technician for our main office in Chesterfield, MO.  This position is responsible for providing technical support and assistance to all MECC personnel and to ensure that all requests for support are handled in a timely manner. The technician will manage day-to-day deployment of PC’s, desktops and laptops for all MECC personnel and provide first line support for all PC’s, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades and standard applications.  The technician will coordinate with other IT staff as needed to resolve Helpdesk reported issues and provide assistance to other Operations staff as needed to ensure best in class service.


 


Primary Responsibilities:



  • Setup and build of all desktops and laptops. Including loading proper software and applications as defined.
  • Responsible for scheduling and performing routine upgrades and preventative maintenance for IT PC equipment.  Scheduling and installing new PC’s and application software.  Tune systems, and recommend changes when appropriate.
  • Responsible for resolving all help desk requests in a timely manner, recording and reporting resolution within the HEAT system. Further escalating to the IT Operations Engineer when required.  Responsible for assisting the IT Operations Engineer as needed.
  • Responsible for daily server backups, loading and unloading daily backup tapes.  Act as backup and provide additional Server support when requested.
  • Responsible for IT asset management of PC and other IT equipment. Ensuring that all equipment is properly asset tagged and recorded. Newly issued software is properly licensed and accounted for.    Reporting any discrepancies in license/use counts to IS Operations manager immediately.
  • Provides technical support for all printer, copiers and scanners, including high speed equipment used with imaging.
  • Provides professional support to all MECC personnel on all IT technical issues, hardware, software, applications, phones, blackberry’s etc.
  • Provides support for audio\visual equipment, conference room setup and related electronic equipment.
  • Responsible for assisting in the installation and use of Berkley software used at MECC, provide weekly status and monthly summary reports to IS Operations Manager.

 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:




  • Associate degree; preferably in computer science, mathematics, engineering or technical field.


  • Minimum 3 year experience in Helpdesk or IT support role.


Customer Issues




  • Minimum 3 years work experience dealing directly with non-technical people


  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills relative to conveying technical issues in non-technical terms.


  • Intermediate knowledge of the job responsibilities and Standards of Performance for all customers of assigned projects or tasks.


  • Basic knowledge of MECC’s business objectives.

  • Basic knowledge of MECC’s goal and objectives.

 


Technical Areas



  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with Intel-based hardware, including servers, desktops and notebook PCs and their peripherals (hard drives, RAM, disk drives, sound cards, fiber cards, network cards, graphics cards, video cards, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with high performance business copiers/printers and desktop and business scanners.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with Windows operating systems. Additional experience with Linux, IBM AIX and VMware a plus. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of and experience with Ethernet LAN cabling and configuration,  telecommunications wiring, UPS brand uninterruptible power supplies, non-electric generators, tape backup hardware and software, high capacity storage devices.

 


Software Applications




  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Office and other Microsoft applications.


  • Intermediate experience using Lotus Notes.


  • Intermediate experience using other operational software that MECC uses (backup exec, etc.)
