Hemodialysis Nurse Needed for Dialysis in Correctional Facilities in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Areas


 


Position Summary


 


The hemodialysis nurse is responsible for the provision and supervision of all direct patient care and assigned cases.  As a licensed nurse, he or she will report to the supervising nurse. 


 


Qualifications


 


·         Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.


·         Candidate must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse (by the State of Texas), and has a working knowledge of ESRD Medicare regulations.


      OR


·         Candidate must possess current licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (by the State of Texas), and has a working knowledge of ESRD Medicare regulations.


·         Candidate must have at least two years experience in performing acute or chronic hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis procedures (within the last 12 months).


·         Candidate demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, and is able to communicate orally and in writing.


·         Candidate must be physically able to lift at least 65 lbs. from floor level (using the proper body mechanics), and able to carry two 65 lb. containers of concentrate solution. Additionally, he or she must be able to stand for periods of up to four hours (during the dialysis process).


·         Candidate must possess a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.


 


Duties and Responsibilities


 


·         Participating in team review and recommending changes in treatment (based on the patient’s current needs


·         Participate in CQI activities


·         Provides patient care and other duties (within the scope of their training and capabilities), facilitate communication between the patient; his or her family, and other team members (to ensure that the needed care is delivered).


·         Preparation of all equipment and supplies (and clean-up following each patient treatment).


·         Performs, initiates, monitors, and terminates dialysis (as needed).



·         Receive reports from other health care members on the physical and emotional status of each patient.


·         Ensure that the physician's orders are executed as written.


·         Communicate accurate and pertinent patient information to the responsible physician (in a timely manner).


·         Communicate accurate and pertinent patient, staff, and operational information to the charge nurse (in a timely manner).


·         Assist the Director of Nursing or charge nurse in implementing and ensuring adherence to the established policies and procedures of the facility.


·         Maintain (as assigned) all required records and reports.


·         Patient education (at the time treatment is being performed).


·         Is available for on-call for patients


·         Must be able to calculate simple mathematical equations.


·         Must be able to work various shifts and schedules.


·         Must be able to perform other duties (as assigned by the Director of Nursing).


·         Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (as required).
