Human Resources/Finance Specialist to deploy to the McMurdo or South Pole Antarctic research station on a contract basis from approximately August 2009 to February 2010







We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements.

Responsibilities:



Provides human resources and finance support for South Pole deployed employees while deployed to Antarctica. Provides human resources and finance support to all employees on station and handles all issues with absolute confidentiality.







Handles investigations regarding matters related to HR policies, procedures or employee issues. Respond and follow up on all employee issues. Work closely with the HR Supervisor and South Pole Area Director to communicate investigation status.



Ensures accurate documentation of personnel changes and additions to employee files and advises and/or forwards all changes to Headquarters on a timely basis. Maintains documentation.



Provides supervisory training, to include the employee evaluation process, documentation and RPSC policies, to all employees with supervisory responsibility. Conducts other employee training as needed.



Responsible for the contract performance evaluation cycle on station including ensuring Pre-Seasons, Mid-Seasons and Post Seasons evaluations are completely in accordance with RPSC policy and procedure. Coordinates the end of season performance evaluation and performance-based bonus processes.



Works closely with Recruiters to facilitate offers to deployed contract personal on station (i.e. "On-Ice offers").

Provides administration of Workers Compensation Program and assists in handling patient transportation off the ice if needed for medical issues.



Has a thorough knowledge of payroll and benefits. Researches and answers employee questions regarding payroll, W-4, expense reports and benefits. Responds to employees in a timely manner.



Coordinates redeployment meetings and provides COBRA forms and information to employees upon re-deployment.



Prepares general correspondence and personnel-related message traffic.



Reconciles and balances the Finance account and the Retail Store account monthly.



Prepares and submits weekly and monthly financial reports and performs daily cash reconciliation with retail store receipts.



Monitors and orders cash and travelers checks for the station and documents cash to be sent off station.



Performs data entry, spreadsheet work, and financial reports with a high level of accuracy. Responsible for proofreading work, correction of errors and creation of final copy.



Distributes bi-weekly employee pay advices and weekly cash distributions for other various payments.



If necessary, interacts with the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person in a professional and tactful manner.



Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, financial information etc.) in accordance with management policy.



Maintains timely and accurate communication with company headquarters.



Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.



Performs other duties as assigned.











Required Qualifications:







Bachelor's degree is required. Professional experience accepted in lieu of a degree. Preference given to degrees'™ in Human Resources or Business Administration. Additional formal accounting education preferred.



Two years of Human Resources and Finance (i.e. payroll) experience required with increasing level of responsibilities. Human Resource experience must include conducting employee investigations. Extensive employee relations experience required. Computer literacy required, including spreadsheet, word processing software. Must be detail oriented, able ability to work independently and have strong organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications:



Finance knowledge and/or training would be very helpful. Additional formal accounting education preferred and PHR preferred. Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Microsoft Access preferred.

All contract positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
