IBM Mainframe Computer Operator
Our Government Client is seeking a Mainframe Computer Operator that will be responsible for monitoring and servicing technical assistance requests for issues on ZOSV1 .9 mainframe environment. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of JES2, MVS, CA-i, CA-li and CA-7. The span of responsibilities under the guidance of the division manager and section head includes, but is not limited to:
- Providing support and job scheduling services to the Information Technology (IT) team within the Commission.
- Minimizing the impact to service delivery caused by failures of batch and online processing in both the mainframe, and to a lesser degree, distributed processing environments.
- Escalating issues and problems to support groups or management groups, as required, and provide operational assistance to diagnose and repair same.
- Monitoring and operate computer systems. Manage a large tape library and maintain off-site storage of back-ups.
- Implementing project set-up and support, track and process tapes; execute billing and other scheduled and unscheduled jobs for commission staff.
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing to technical and non-technical staff.
- Providing services in the following: mainframe documentation, daily computer operations, back-up operations, start-up and close-out of data center, print out-puL job scheduling, escalation management process, IPL checks, storagetek SL8500 maintenance, AD Floe reports, tape library management (data back-up and restore), and Virtual Tape System (VTS).
- Working with Sr. Technical Writer maintain and documentation of policies and procedures.
- Multi-tasking and prioritize work to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Selecting and load input and output; observe operations of equipments, control panels, error lights, verification printouts, error messages and faulty output.
- Reassembling error messages and manipulate console to restart job steps after job interruption.
- Operating and monitoring computer and peripheral equipment. such as printers, tape and disk drives.
- Assisting in monitoring and maintaining the tape library using CA-I tape management system.
- Assisting with volume printing form console operations.
- Using CA-7 to submit, or modilV JCL when required.
- Communicating with, and coordinating the effort of fellow team members to ensure continuation and completion of work in progress from one work shift to another.
- Evaluating performance and workload statistics to determine trends and improve job flow and performance.
- Assembling job stream input, organizing for submission to computer and adjusts backlog to handle problem runs, special runs, system failure, etc.
- Reviewing system message logs, identifies incomplete jobs that do not process correctly, and initiates actions required w reprocess aborted or incorrect jobs.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a Mainframe Operator with day to day tasks in data
