This IDMS System Programmer requires an expert knowledge of IDMS on Z/OS mainly, and limited knowledge of the Z/LINUX operating systems. Experience with other database formats such as DB2, IMS, ADABAS, DATACOM, and Oracle is advantageous. The DB SP must be able to support IDMS from a systems standpoint from the ground up. Expert level knowledge of installing, maintaining, monitoring and tuning IDMS CVs on the mainframe is required; and some experience with the other databases is preferred. This DB SP must have an expert knowledge of different IDMS utilities and third party products for this database type. This SP must be able to ensure the environment is properly backed up, documented and supported. The ability to apply new software versions and releases, ongoing maintenance levels and emergency fixes is required. This SP must also be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with clients. The DB SP must also be able to support Disaster Recovery exercises and procedures. This System Programmer must be able to handle multiple, complex tasks and establish priorities on an ongoing basis. The DB System Programmer must have experience dealing with multiple clients and environments at the same time.
A minimum of 5-years DB System Programmer experience is strongly desired based on ability to fit the requirements.
Specific tasks include:
Installation of new IDMS CVs on the mainframe, and Z/Linux platforms.
Keeping version, release and maintenance levels current.
Monitoring and reporting on IDMS CVs as to system performance and reliability.
Identifying, resolving and preventing system IDMS CV problems.
Design and implement system database backup and recovery strategies.
Provide professional guidance as to IDMS CV implementation and use of.
Working with the customer to plan and implement all system changes.
Required Skills:
Expert IDMS CV software knowledge
Z/OS operating system knowledge
General knowledge of Z/LINUX administrator skills
Expert knowledge in the use of the IDMS utilities for database purposes.
General knowledge of third party software that uses the IDMS base system software.
Knowledge of connecting to IDMS through VTAM.
Programming languages, specifically COBOL, ADSO, ADSA, and CULPRIT is required.
SMP/E and ServerPac knowledge is required
Nice to have skills:
Knowledge of ODBC using JDBC drivers is desired.
Knowledge of JAVA, C and C++ is helpful.
