INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER

About the Job

Summary:

 

Provides pedagogical and curricular consultation
and design following accepted online design standards such as Quality
Matters.

 

Oversees Instructional Developers to implement and produce
course materials and delivery format for online courses.

 

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in instructional or curriculum design, education, or
related field; three years experience in instructional design,
teaching, instructional technology support (or related field) or
equivalent combination of education and experience; excellent
communication, organizational and time management skills; ability to
meet and manage multiple deadlines; work independently and on a team;
working knowledge of current technological tools for the creation and
delivery of online course materials; solid background in pedagogical
practices.

 



Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in instructional or curriculum design, education, or related field
3-5 years of progressive experience redesigning curriculum for online delivery

 



Detailed Description:

Assist schools and colleges with planning certificate and degree programs for delivery through distance education


Present methods to help instructors define educational goals, student needs, and choose appropriate delivery media

 


Act as a project manager to ensure the courses are completed in a timely manner

 


Provide support to faculty in the development of technology-enhanced
curriculum and instruction through consultations, workshops,
informational briefings, and other activities.

 


Assess courses and student information to determine if quality guidelines and desired learning outcomes have been met.

 


Plan and conduct workshops, seminars and other presentations related to educational technology.

 


Maintain topical information regarding changing trends in teaching and learning with technology.

 


Facilitate focus groups and client meetings in order to tailor on-line programs that meet needs and improve performance.

 


According to established guidelines, do a final "flight check" on each course before it is released for offering.

 


Work collaboratively with the UM System eLearning Team to employ
best practices for online learning and

 

participate in faculty
development workshop and conference activities.

 


Consultation on course design.

 


Course design and development of fully online courses.

 


Curriculum and/or program design for online degree/certificate programs.

 


Course design for web-enabled and/or hybrid delivery.

 


Support for use of technology used in course material production (faculty and/or student use).

 


Technology training.


Research and development of best practices and solutions for instructional design.

 


Assist faculty in periodic quality review of course materials.

 


Assist faculty to conduct educational research on instructional methodologies, specifically when technology mediate.

 


Project management of course design (end-to-end)


  • Self-managed for assigned projects
  • Management and/or coordination of others? projects
  • Small and/or large projects


Perform other duties as assigned.

 


Expert and/or Principal level individuals/positions can be given
duties related to supervision of work performed by lower level
positions, including Instructional Technologists and/or Instructional
Developers.
