IT Service Engineer

The HP-IT Infrastructure and Operations (ITIO) organization is responsible for HP's IT core infrastructure services strategy, including engineering, delivery operations and security.  As part of ITIO, the Infrastructure Specialized Services team is responsible for accelerating IT transformation by closing the gap between existing, standard services and emerging, non-standard requirements. 


Our team is focused on providing solutions and services for business cases that are not met by current standard services.  The job requires an individual who can rapidly understand business requirements, assess the fit with current and emerging standards, and work within a team to provide rapid but effective results - all with an eye toward aligning with future standards.  As a member of the HP IT Infrastructure Specialized Services Team you will be responsible to: 
  • Research, design, develop, configure, integrate, test and maintain existing and new IT infrastructure services

  • Work across the IT organization to ensure that services integrate and align with standards or, when appropriate, work within IT to evolve future standards

  • Analyze business requirements, perform infrastructure design and integration of various software and hardware components, coding of modifications or new programs

  • Create service documentation and test plans; prepare required documentation and participate in architecture reviews 

  • Direct engineering efforts towards usability, self-service, and zero-support needed goals

 
 



This position requires an expert developer/engineer with flexible and adaptable skills that are both broad and deep.  Services require the integration of various technologies and process combinations including workstation and PC clients, operating systems (Linux and Windows,) image and installation managerment, off-the-shelf applications, virtualization, script writing, and automation of processes such a workstation backup.  In addition, you must be a strong communicator and a problem-solver.
 
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field of study or related experience
 
  • 10+ years of in infrastructure related services 

  • Recognized expert in industry

  • Proven experience with as many skills as possible as noted below:

  • Redhat Linux, versions 4 and 5 (certification preferred)

  • Backup tools for Linux workstations

  • Windows XP, Vista 64-bit, Windows 7

  • Bash

  • Visual Studio with Visual Basic

  • C++

  • Ghost

  • CFEngine

  • HP Configuration manager

  • Encryption

  • Experience managing end user computing environments

  • Ability to influence decisions within the organization 

  • Future looking

  • Broad view of industry and technology trends

  • Good negotiation skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task across projects.

  • Ability to think out-of-the-box to apply technology to solve business problems

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Technical Masters degree

  • Experience with R&D environments and tools

  • Ability to interface and influence at all levels in an organization from executive teams to individuals

  • Strong customer service orientation·
