IWS User Experience Competency Center Manager (Design Section Mgr)

Our Global Design team comprises Industrial, Graphics and User Interface Designers as well as Human Factors Engineers and Design Researchers. Together we work across the group businesses to drive innovative and creative solutions that can change the world, just a bit.

 
Scope
Create and lead a world-class Experience Design Competency for IWS
  • Is recognized as an innovative  Experience Design  leader and troubleshooter within the corporate design community, and an example of good ID leadership for the design community

  • Act as an IWS role model for design sensibility and delivering solutions that meet customers social, emotional and function needs

  • Manage and align the IWS Experience Designers and associated resource expenditures to optimize interaction design contributions across IWS

  • Leads change initiatives to integrate the Experience Design contributions and methodologies into IWS  product planning, development, and execution

  • Effectively integrate experience design strategies into IWS strategies, plans, and operations

Primary Responsibility/Accountability
  • Manage design budget development and alignment to IWS Design Strategy and Business Goals

  • Optimize experience-design-related workforce planning and resource investment for IWS, across product lines and across all geographic locations

  • Ensure experience design & design-research vendor/contractor and internal team productivity (measure = high productivity-to-cost ratios) across IWS

  • Promotes institutionalization of standard experience design methods and processes across IWS

  • Balances internal and external resources to optimize productivity while creating world-class designs and protecting corporate assets

  • Fosters forward-looking development of experience design assets, core management capabilities, and career planning/ succession management

  • Aligns IWS experience design efforts with corporate design direction, strategy, policy, and standards to drive institutionalization of corporate-wide standard design methods and processes

Typical Activities
  • IWS experience design workforce planning to meet emerging customer & business needs

  • Aligns experience design team work with prioritized business-related program/project investments

  • Enforces group performance and productivity standards; and approves promotion readiness

  • Plans and manages IWS experience design budget/investments

  • Ensures communication of corporate mission, systems, and processes to IWS experience design team, as well as group alignment

  • Fosters work environments that comply with HR requirements and that maximize contributions of all

  • Invests in innovative workforce development strategies to enhance group capabilities

  • Ensures accurate tracking of direct-report time and deliverables; approves requests; and determines exemptions

  • Conducts group salary planning and approves promotion readiness

  • Ensures IWS experience design  & design-research vendor alignment and service purchases with business priorities as well as with corporate design policies 

  • Supervises the work of direct reports

  • Establishes strategies for IWS experience design investment and resources

  • Advocates for design and the optimum use of design resources in business planning and strategy development forums

  • Leverages the relationship between customer insights, brand, brand architecture, and design strategies to ensure that customer insights influence strategies, plans, and offerings, thereby increasing relevance to customers

  • Influences the integration of design attitude, design language, and design assets across  IWS

  • Collaborates with marketing to identify business opportunities based on customer trends that provide the greatest business and customer benefit

  • Collaborates with Marketing, R&D and CA to set priorities and gather relevant customer insights for use in strategy, planning, and design of products and services

  • Coordinates with operations, HR, Finance, Procurement, Facilities, and Legal as needed to use design more strategically

  • Collaborates with corporate design to develop and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with key  experience design and  design-research vendors




Education and Experience Required:
 
Typically a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Masters degree preferred.

5 years minimum managing/10 years overall experience minimum.
