The Indirect Material Commodity Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the procurement of all tools, spare parts, consumables, services, utilities and freight for the U.S.A and Mexico. . Responsible for planning and coordinating the Indirect Materials Purchasing activities, controls and/or quantitative budgets to minimize plant operating costs of indirect materials. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field, demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Indirect Materials Commodity, and 10 + years high volume experience in the automotive or industrial field. Strong communication and leadership skills are critical to success in this role.
- Supervise/lead the purchasing of machinery, equipment, tools parts, services, and supplies as required by the organization
- Develop key sub-commodity strategies together with manufacturing and negotiate relevant purchasing agreements to support strategy
- Know the market – search the market for potential suppliers and monitor overall market trends of raw materials eg. Oil, Gas, Electricity, Steels
- Negotiate the best possible purchase terms (eg price, payment terms) for suppliers delivering against an open purchase order
- Propose Cost reduction or supplier changes to the production areas in order to reduce the procurement and/or production cost
- Maintain records pertaining to items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance and inventory levels
- Supervise the indirect buyers to achieve the highest level of performance, and perform their annual performance review
- Review and monitor indirect material purchasing processes and propose process improvements where applicable.
- Develop tools to promote indirect purchases data sharing between US and Mexican operations
- Propose and lead projects to re-engineer OEM bought-out tools to be manufactured in-house or outsourced to local machine shops
- Obtain the best possible terms from scrap dealers for the collection of, and sale of scrap.
