This position will perform a variety of engineering assignments in developing and implementing lean production/processing methods and controls to meet the highest possible quality standards at the lowest possible cost. The incumbent will work with all to implement improvements across all shifts. The extent of success will be evaluated by metrics such as throughput, scrap and material usage variances, delivery performance, and optimal machine utilization. Duties include Project Management – develops project plans; coordinates projects; communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and within budget; manages project team activities; ability to teach others. Establish, maintain and update routings and BOM’s in order to ensure accuracy in the production/planning process and ensure accurate costing. Product Data Management – ability to gather, manipulate and analyze MAPICS data; ability to assist facility with conversion to SAP; manage issues relating to data collection using creative solutions. Investigates and resolves work-in-process problems. Identify specific steps in an operation in order to establish accurate time standards to track actual membrane costs, utilizing concepts such as Lean Manufacturing, SPC, DOE and DMAIC to ensure that all activities are focused on stated objectives and add value. Analyzes current manufacturing methods and recommends and implements lean concepts to reduce waste. Maintains positive, ongoing working relationship with Operations personnel to ensure the highest degree of collaboration of efforts to achieve stated objectives. Effectively trains Operation personnel to gain buy-in and ownership of lean concepts and process improvements. Applies business rationale when proposing and implementing engineering solutions to process related production challenges. Complies with all customer and regulatory requirements including ISO, cGMP’s, and FDA regulations for medical device manufacturing if applicable. Requirements include an advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of lean manufacturing and production process engineering as typically acquired by achieving a Bachelor’s degree in an Industrial Engineering or related discipline and 10 or more years of demonstrated experience. Experience in AutoCad, mechanical design, programmable controls, DOE, and SPC is required. Green or Black Belt in Six Sigma desired. The ability to interact with people in a positive, collaborative manner to achieve objectives. Skills in oral and written communication to maintain positive working relationships with Operations personnel, suppliers, and others as needed. Ability to effectively lead, develop and measure the attainment of lean manufacturing concepts throughout Operations. This may be achieved through effectively developing, empowering, and motivating appropriate Operations personnel. Excellent oral and written communication skills including negotiating and listening skills. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams. Ability to conduct presentations and/or training.
A working knowledge of the laws and regulations that affect medical device manufacturing, if applicable, cGMP’s and ISO procedures. Skill in organizing and integrating work activities so as to maximize the value to the Company and achieving stated objectives. Must have freedom to travel to suppliers on an occasional basis. Ability to access gauges and equipment 5-6 feet off the ground, lift and move 20-35 lb. parcels to height of 6 feet for 100 yards. Ability to assimilate and communicate complex technical information to understand and respond to technical problems.
