Preschool Teacher

At University Community Childcare we believe in our commitment to the Center’s children. 

We are a team who believes children deserve a positive environment – staffed by professionals who are deeply committed to the children's well being and satisfaction.  Our teachers are proud to be a part of that team effort in modeling for the next generation.  At UCC, we commit to ensuring that children have opportunities to be involved in self-directed activities guided by an observant teacher. 

§ The Preschool teaching team provides care and education for 16 children 3 years through 5 years old

§ Preschool children have the opportunity to participate in large and small motor activities, dramatic play, art, science, and pre-reading and pre-math activities.  Weather permitting, outdoor play is a part of each day's activities, as well as relaxing, playing with friends, and sitting with a teacher to listen to a story                                                                                                                            

§ Observations by the teaching team provide guidance when planning activities for exploration, practice and mastery of skills at each child's developmental level

§ Positive guidance offers children information they need to know in order to make and be a friend, work with others to complete a project and understand how to live in the world around them

Our goal is to value and recognize the individual uniqueness and diversity each person brings to the center.  Staff harmony is important to providing successful child care. 

New Staff Orientation training occurs during a teacher’s first week at UCC.  You will view helpful DVD training sessions, work with your supervisor to learn about the preschool program and will gradually begin working with the children in your group.  Our goal is to assist you in being a valuable and successful member of our team.

      Center hours are 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday – Friday

      Salary plus flex-benefit; 2 weeks’ vacation and 6 days sick leave

University Community Childcare is a private, non-profit organization located on the north side of the Iowa State University campus.  The center services children from the ages of 6 weeks – 11 years old.  UCC was established in 1971 and has maintained accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children since 2000.
