Information Services - SQL Database Administrator

About the Job

Support the clinical SQL database environments in order to ensure high availability and business continuity in accordance with department operating procedures and sound systems administration practices.

Essential Job Duties

  • Perform core SQL database management tasks including software installation, database creation, configuration and database upgrades and user administration.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve database application bottlenecks on production level systems.
  • Capacity Planning
  • Ensure successful backups and test recoverability of databases and logs
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new related technologies and products.
  • Proactively monitor database conditions to resolve potential troubles before they impact clinical operations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Service Desk tickets reported by application owners and individual users.
  • Ensure that proper hardware requirements are being met.
  • SQL Server Database Consolidation
  • Involvement with DR/BC planning


Job Requirements:

Ability to design, install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot SQL databases. Experience with user administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, data replication and mirroring, security and trend analysis, capacity planning in a SQL database environment. Experience with the optimization of High Availability SQL environments. Extensive knowledge of data structures and data management including:  Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC), SQL Enterprise Manager, SQL Profiler, SQL Query Analyzer, and SQL command line tools. Experience with SQL Clustering. Experience with monitoring and optimizing database performance. Demonstrate strong problem analysis and troubleshooting skills.  Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills required for problem definition and resolution.

Advancement: To advance to a Sr. SQL Database Administrator position, the employee must show the ability to lead database projects and work well with application owners and technical managers to bring projects to successful and timely completion. Must also exhibit ability to review SQL infrastructure to improve supportability and maintainability of environments, improve database performance and develop testing strategy.
