Information Technology Project Manager

About the Job

A Boston-based Clinical Research Organization as part of a large health care system is developing an information technology platform that will combine clinical trial, medical record, and molecular data to enable hypothesis discovery and validation.  This platform will organize and store heterogeneous data from across a health care network and provide a secure workspace for collaborating scientists to perform their analyses.  The platform will also serve as a repository for a large reference cohort of patients, collecting both administrative (enrollment, consent, etc) and scientific data related to this cohort.  This will be a large, database-driven project designed to support a number of scientific and administrative applications and will feature a number of different technologies including Microsoft’s .NET and SQLServer, as well as open source technologies used for genomic analysis.  A team of developers and analysts is being formed and an experienced information technology project manager is required to help lead the day to day development required of this initiative.

The position includes oversight of and participation in requirements capture, development, deployment, and trouble shooting in an iterative development environment.  The candidate must be comfortable with documenting and overcoming technical and political barriers across teams with very different backgrounds including clinicians, investigators, bioinformatics researchers, and software developers.

Candidates must have a track record of 5+ years of managing large scale, complex projects that combine heterogeneous data types from multiple sources.  An understanding of data modeling, requirements gathering, agile development methods and managing teams of at least 5+ developers are also required skills.  Candidates should be prepared to provide samples of documents they have created or used to manage projects.

Life sciences experience is a plus but we consider this position to be an ideal opportunity for the highly qualified information technology project manager to enter into the field of genomics, life sciences, and personalized medicine.  Candidates without life sciences experience must be able to demonstrate a track record of applying software development project management skills across a number of domains.

The position emphasizes development and deployment planning, risk assessment, resource management, estimating and monitoring resources, documentation, training, and team building. The PM is expected to have or quickly gain an understanding of  the following subjects:  databases, forms technology, electronic data capture, reporting, data warehousing, data analysis, data standardization, business analysis, workflow, alerts, performance indicators, Sharepoint, Infopath, Microsoft’s .NET, SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft Office, XML, web services, ODBC, HTML, ASPx, SAS, CDISC, C#, Datalabs, Teleforms.

There will be a background check run as part of the employment process.  Candidates MUST be U.S. citizens.  Applications from recruiters will not be accepted for this position.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and résumé to:

Owen Harris at:  sundowndev@gmail.com .  Please specify the job title in your email.
