Information Technology Specialist 4/DBA

About the Job

MN Secretary of State Computer Services is looking for an experienced DBA to join our development team. The Office of the Secretary of State, Computer Services Division is responsible for building and maintaining elections and business services applications to support the mission and responsibilities of the office. Systems are usually web-based, developed using the latest Microsoft tools, technologies, architecture and practices (C#, .NET 3.0/3.5, n-tier architecture, SQL Server 2005/2008, Visual Studio and Team Foundation System). Computer Services has a staff of about 30, which includes development, quality assurance, network administration, production support and project management professionals. The list of new and exciting projects continues to expand, often based on federal and other funding sources. Our network architecture includes development, quality assurance and several production environments, supported by redundant hardware, load-balanced web farms and clustered database servers in two locations. Responsibilities include:
Work as a DBA to design, develop, deploy, and support the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS), Election Reporting System (ERS), and Minnesota Business and Lien System (MBLS) applications along with Enterprise level systems for the agency IS department. Occasionally work as production support DBA when requested to support Production and QA environments. As a member of the team effectively communicate to understand and to follow established patterns and practices and make own contributions to the team expertise.

The ideal candidate should have:

- 4 to 8 years relevant work experience (4 years as SQL DBA)
- MS SQL Server database physical and logical design skills
- Strong experience with Database development (stored procedures, triggers, views)
- Demonstrated experience in performance measurement and tuning
- Strong DTS/SSIS experience
- Strong technical leadership skills
- High level of competency with NET Visual Studio 2005/2008 (Database edition)
- Database management and maintenance skills
- A proven track record designing and developing custom solutions with attention to performance, reliability and maintainability.
- Experience analyzing, designing, implementing, and supporting business applications
- Ability to perform technical analysis and provide recommendations for the best way to accomplish and implement project requirements and goals.
- Ability to work closely with IS Development Manager and Project Managers to prioritize and plan projects, provide realistic estimates
- Experience to work in a team environment
- Good understanding of the software development life cycle and industry methodologies and common practices
- Ability to maintain a level of professionalism and work in well structured development environment

Desired Skills:
- Data Warehousing experience
- C# for CLR
- Experience working with clients in rapid application development
- Willingness to support and effectively use the project management methodology
- Ability to “think outside the box” and help inject new ideas to help our customers and business be more successful

Education:
B.S. in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or related field and at least 4 years of software development experience OR 8 years of software development experience in software engineering.
