Infrastructure Engineer II

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Infrastructure Engineer II reports through to the Infrastructure Director and oversees the H.B. Fuller computer servers and internal systems to ensure that they are effectively designed and functioning properly.

The Infrastructure Engineer II typically configures and manages the servers, load balancers, storage arrays, virtual environments, operating systems, and core infrastructure software and services. In addition, the Infrastructure Engineer II will be responsible for troubleshooting capacity and availability issues, various moves/adds/changes, server software installation and configuration, participate in project activities, performance tuning of the environment, and offering training and guidance to other team members.

PRIMARY DUTIES

This individual will be involved in a variety of infrastructure areas within global IT. Frequent communication with H.B. Fuller management and staff in all regions is expected for troubleshooting, performance tuning, and new project activity. The Infrastructure Engineer II will also be expected to work through trouble tickets with internal and external partner vendors in the support of our global network. There is an on-call expectation for this role.

PRIMARY

• Responsible for infrastructure implementation, deployment and support of technologies related to server platforms including Solaris, HPUX, Redhat, and SUSE with some VMWare, Novell and Microsoft.
• Serve as project lead for smaller activities requiring limited resources
• Mentor, assist, and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.
• Research appropriate technology and product offerings.
• Provide input into infrastructure solution recommendations based on customer requirements and internal standards.
• Assist with configuration and implementation deployments.
• Assist in developing cost estimates, time lines, and work load for project solutions, as required.
• Serve as member of the IT Infrastructure team; working in conjunction with other IT and business managers and technicians to support the goals of the H.B. Fuller organization.
• Cooperate with other global departments, where necessary, on tasks, support, or small projects.
• Approximately 80% of this position is project related, and 20% support (to assist support team) – Tier 3 escalation support.
• Some international travel may be required.
• Off hour on-call support is required.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Relevant bachelor’s degree in computer systems, infrastructure and administration, with additional business focus.
• Knowledge of infrastructure and server theories, principles, and concepts (typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree)
• 5 or more years of design/build experience with Sun Solaris, REd Hat, VMWare ESX, Microsoft Windows, DNS, DHCP and WINS.others.
• 1 – 2 years of general networking fundamentals.
• 1 – 2 years of antivirus operation and management.
• 2+ years of SAN design and support experience (HP EVA and NetApp preferred.
• 3 years or more of cross-platform server management (Solaris, HP/UX, Linux, VMWare, CITRIX, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel and other standard business applications.
• Understands the impact of network solutions on business operations and balances the scope, security, and quality of technology solutions with business needs.
• Able to rapidly absorb and apply new technical information.
• Able to maintain focus within a changing environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 2+ years of general networking fundamentals
• 2+ years of VMWare virtual software, PC or storage experience.
• 1+ years of infrastructure support for middleware technologies including Biztalk, MQ Series, Websphere, WebMethods, shell scripting)
• 1+ years of practical database experience (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, MS Access)
• 1+ years of Novell experience (Netware, GroupWise)
• SCNA, SCSA, RHCE, MCSE, CCNA, VCP or other related certifications.
• 2+ years past experience as UNIX and Storage Administrator.
• Ability to translate technical issues into understandable business language when communicating to end users.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical and operational leadership to other infrastructure team members and professionals from other IT disciplines.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
• Environment is typical office layout with infrequent requirement to work in the controlled data center environment. Data center environments vary from simple closets typical of a H.B. Fuller manufacturing plant, to the tier 3 corporate data center.
• Must be able to rack typical server and appliance gear unassisted in a standard 42u frame and lift approximately 40 pounds (appx. 18 kilograms) unassisted.
