Under general supervision of Lead Coder, this position will reviews inpatient and outpatient discharged records consistent with ICD-9-CM/CPT guidelines and departmental policy. Reviews all accounts requested by RAC. In doing so, analyzes the medical record for complete documentation of final diagnoses and procedures to assure accurate MS-DRG assignment. Abstracts patient data and assists in the accurate and complete maintenance of disease and operation indices.
Qualifications
A Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Register Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) with experience in coding inpatient and outpatient records
3 years ICD-9-CM/CPT coding experience and a working knowledge of MS-DRGs, Peer Review Organization/HCFA Regulation
Previous experience with software (3M Encoders, MS-DRG, HBOC Abstracting) preferred.
Knowledge of government and private payor practices, regulations, standards and reimbursement.
