Under direction of the Health Science Coordinator, tutor and remediate Health Sciences students; maintain the skills/ learning labs, medical and office supplies and equipment, provide assistance to faculty and students in clinical settings or sponsored events; perform organizational/record-keeping duties to maintain the Skills Lab.

Job Duties:
Tutor and remediate students in the Health Sciences Learning and Skills laboratory. E

Develop and implement remedial instruction for students in collaboration with faculty. E

Evaluate, track, document and report student progress in a remediation plan. E

Assist students with diverse educational needs, such as ESL and academic and economic disadvantages; provide enhancement of student professional development. E

Assist in the administration and scoring of tests and class assignments. E

Maintain the Learning and Skills Laboratory, assuring that equipment is clean, organized and in operating order, reorder supplies as needed and coordinate the overall maintenance, cleaning, and repair of lab with the Maintenance
Department. E

Maintain inventory of all laboratory supplies and equipment, such as audio-visual, computer hardware and software, VCR, Smart Carts in the nursing skills lab, storage, and assigned classrooms; arrange for repairs of equipment in Skills and Learning Laboratory; establish effective checkout system for all equipment. E

Maintain safety standards in the Learning and Skills Laboratory. E

Operate and demonstrate use of equipment, such as computers, copiers, scanners, and printers, and monitors use of instructional materials such as computer-assisted software and videos. E

Prepare and duplicate instructional materials. E

Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and other related records and submit in accordance with deadlines. E

Meet regularly with faculty for purposes of planning student activities in the lab. E

Accompany students to community agencies for clinical supervision, including monthly senior screening, flu clinics, etc. E

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to Associate Degree in Nursing with current valid license to practice as Registered Nurse in California and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care in a clinical setting within the past three years.

Experience in teaching, either in clinical setting, community, or educational system and some experience working with students in an organized setting is preferred.

Current Nursing Clinical skills, application of the nursing process and critical thinking

Instructional/Teaching methods and techniques
College level Math Skills

Computer skills; such as use of word processing, spread sheets, data base, PowerPoint, internet exploration
Operation of assigned instructional/medical equipment
Correct use, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary

Ability To:
Perform and teach clinical nursing skills
Apply nursing process and critical thinking skills to clinical situations
Communicate effectively with students and faculty
Plan and organize work
Make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately
Advise students in the proper operation and use of assigned instructional equipment
Learn quickly to apply specific rules, policies and procedures
Operate instructional/medical equipment such as computers, copiers, printers, scanners, smart carts, and related instructional equipment, including audiovisual
Speak clearly and distinctly
Understand and follow oral and written directions

Physical Abilities
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of office equipment
Reaching to retrieve and file records
Hearing and speaking to communicate with students and staff
Seeing to read and review assignments and to observe student behavior
Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
Lifting equipment weighing up to 25 pounds

Work Week/Hours
Monday through Friday, 6 hours per day.

The current 10 month, 75% vacancy is located at Ventura College.

The eligibility list being established will be used to fill full-time and part-time positions in this classification up to one year throughout the Ventura County Community College District.

Required Selection Process:
PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF APPLICATIONS & SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
In completing the application and the supplemental questionnaire (if required), outline in detail your education, training (such as classes, seminars, workshops) and experience. Application materials will be screened by a committee of subject matter experts, who will recommend candidates for participation in the oral examination process.

ELIGIBILITY LIST
Upon completion of the examination, the open / promotional eligibility list will be compiled by combining the oral score and applicable seniority and veteran's credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the open / promotional eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill the current vacancies up to one year from the date of the oral examination.

APPOINTMENTS
The candidate selected will be recommended by the Chancellor to the Governing Board for final approval.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD
All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service whichever is longer.

Salary Range: $3981.00 - $5491.00

Describe your experience, education, and job-related training as a provider of patient care in a clinic or medical-surgical environment. Include the type of organization, your area of expertise (oncology, obstetrics, emergency, etc.), the percentage of time for which you were responsible for direct patient care, and the duration of your employment with this organization.
