Instructional Systems Design Manager

The Instructional Designer will research, design and develop learning tools to support differing business initiatives. Heavy emphasis will be placed on a candidate's technical proficiency as the majority of development will be for web-based delivery. Candidates for this position should look forward to working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and must be a highly skilled communicator and a motivated self-starter. Preference will be given to candidates with K-12 education or tutoring experience. The position is based in Baltimore, MD. Occasional travel required.

As a successful Instructional Systems Design Manager you will:

* Work in collaboration with subject matter experts and project manager to analyze learning and performance needs; Create design document and propose to analyze the learning and performance need, create a high-level program design and develop the program.
* Create series of e-learning modules to support business operations by applying appropriate instructional design methods.
* Work with the project team to ensure that e-learning modules support the business objectives and the goals of the project team.
* Leverage learning standards in your program design and development (SCORM/AICC).
* Conduct needs assessments as required to identify how training can drive performance improvement across the organization.
* Publish design documents that faithfully represent proposed training program structures and outcomes for management approval prior to commencement of development.
* Act as the primary developer and content writer of training programs; utilize subject matter experts as required.
* Manage course design and review process using established design and editing guidelines to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of training products.
* Publish courses for use on Sylvan's Learning Management System.
* Serve as point of contact for questions from Sylvan Community regarding training design, delivery and registration processes and systems.
* Design, develop and implement a multi-level evaluation strategy and analyze evaluation outcomes for all training products.
* Communicate professionally with client contacts, subject matter experts and 3rd party contractors.
* Manage contractor relationship for designated deliverables to ensure successful completion of contract requirements.
* Work well in a team environment with subject matter experts, multimedia programmers, and graphic artists.
* Partner with Training Managers to update and maintain existing training programs.

We Require: 

* Bachelor's degree.
* 3 + years of instructional design experience, including demonstrated success managing all aspects of the instructional design process.
* Ability to use storyboards and/or instructional outlines to design and develop courses with high degree of independence.
* Manage all phases of the Instructional Design process using industry standards for design processes, such as ADDIE.
* Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring high quality results and on-time, on-budget completion.
* Strong, creative writing skills that allows for development of engaging and dynamic content.
* Strong editing, proofreading and formatting skills.
* Knowledge of working with a Learning Management System and an understanding of SCORM course requirements
* Strong platform training skills.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver sales training content.

Required Software/Application Knowledge:

* General working knowledge of the follow software packages and scripting: 
    Dreamweaver 
    Flash 
    Sharepoint
    HTML
* Demonstrated proficiency in the following course authoring and delivery tools: 
    * Lectora 
    * Captivate and other Adobe E-Learning Suite tools
* Video, image and audio editing software
* Webex, Elluminate or similar Web conferencing tools
* MS Office components including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project

We Prefer:

* Master's Degree in Instructional Design or related degree.
* Knowledge of K-12 education or tutoring is a plus.

Work Samples:

* Detailed descriptions of previous project work will be requested for review prior to interview.
* Work samples, including both writing and elearning design samples built using Lectora and one other software program, will be requested from those candidates who are invited to an interview. Functioning online course samples required.
